Description

This property is a real romantic getaway, a truly picture postcard cottage recently re-thatched and decorated inside and out.  For the summer it has a pretty small garden to sit in and on the colder evenings you can snuggle up in front of the log burner. Everything is new, the bedroom is spacious and the bed is very comfortable.  It is close to the Fountain Head Inn.  Wonderful walks to the sea where there is the Sea Shanty restaurant which serves good food.  An ideal place for dog owners as there are many miles of walks to be had.

Location:  Otter's Corner is in Branscombe, a lovely village on Devon's south coast where thatched cottages frame the valley and lead down to the sea. The cottage is situated on a picturesque walking route (one of many close by) and is moments from the characterful Fountain Head Inn.

Accommodation:  Outside the cottage is a handy space for cleaning off your wellies (and dog!) As you enter the cottage through the front stable door, there is plenty of handy storage and hanging space as well as a well-equipped utility room with toilet facilities.

The beautifully-decorated open plan dining and sitting room, complete with a window seat overlooking the lane, has a brand-new shaker-style kitchen with all you need for a relaxed or romantic supper. A welcoming log burner is tucked into a fireplace, with a two-seater sofa and armchair in which to cosy-up on during those chilly winter evenings. From the kitchen is a softly-carpeted open tread stairway leading to the first floor. To one side of the landing is a luxuriously-appointed shower room with large shower and fluffy white towels. Opposite is a light and pretty bedroom with painted beams and sloping ceilings in keeping the cottage's original features. There is a king-size bed with white cotton bed linen, dressing table, hanging space and chest of drawers. Finally, as dogs are very much welcome, he or she can curl up on the blankets provided, and dog bowls are ready and waiting.

Outside: Opposite Otter's Corner there is a private courtyard-style garden with table, chairs, parasol and sun lounger, ideal for al fresco dining, along with a dedicated (and much coveted!) parking space.

Facilities:  Wash-dryer, sink, small freezer, ironing board, TV, electric oven, induction hob, dishwasher, larder, fridge, microwave, toaster, heated towel racks, hair dryer. Wifi and USB charging points. Bed linen and towels. Dog bowls and blankets provided. Parking for one car. Friday to Friday changeover.

Restrictions:  No smoking inside the property.

Reviews

Cottage is very well presented and equipped. Written instructions were clear.

Mr D,

Otters Corner is a lovely cottage in a great location. We found walking from the cottage really enjoyable with everything sign posted well. The cottage had a great hanging area for damp walking clothes and plenty of space for boots and coats .

Mrs S,

Beautiful, homely, welcoming, fairy tale cottage with all the amenities catered for and stylishly decorated. Very comfy bed. Great base for country and costal walks and 2 pubs, 1 of which is just round the corner serving lovely food. The area is so unspoilt, set in time with it's thatched cottages, National Trust Heritage buildings, beautiful gardens, breathing scenery and a lovely beach that is dog friendly all year round. They even have specialised dog ice creams at the Shack. Our rescue dog Jasmine has had the time of her life on her 1st holiday. We've loved it. Stunningly beautiful holiday.

Mrs C,

This cottage is perfect for two people and if you’re like us, a dog. It’s in the most beautiful setting surrounded by hills, thatched cottages and well worn paths. It has everything you need and was spotlessly clean upon arrival. The shower after a long walk is bliss and I was glad to see a washing washing in the utility room. We walked every day, exploring the surrounding towns and villages and on return ate either in the village pub or cooked in the well equipped kitchen. The only thing to be aware of if your dog loves chasing a ball on a sandy beach is that all of the beaches in the area are pebble.

Mrs J,

Exactly as described. Nice touch scones and cream to greet us plus doggy treats.

Mr Christopher H,

Property was very comfortable and well finished. Original Cottages communications very good.

Mr D B,

Otter's Corner was a delight, it is a lovely cottage is a quiet village. We will definitely be returning.

Mr Nicholas C,

The cottage was clean, tastefully furnished, with fresh decor. Branscombe is a pretty village and the cottage is a 2 minute walk to the Fountain Head Pub. Well situated to explore East Devon

Mrs Brenda D,

On original publicity couldn't see any mention of WiFi or heating It said no phone signal. So thought maybe no WiFi either! Heating was good but wasn't mentioned in original description. Seating wasn't brilliant. Not much room on sofa! Bed could do with a mattress topper as cd feel the mattress buttons which are uncomfortable. Otherwise all good. Maybe one or two more rugs on the floor?

Ms Liz G,

Lovely period cottage in idyllic village with all mod cons

Mr Andrew C,

Lovely cottage, beautiful location. Cleaning has improved since last visit a year ago. You need to get the front door seen to. It has swollen in the wet and doesn't fit, making it very difficult to close and open

Mr David P,

Loved the cottage Fantastic response from complaints team V difficult when water supply cut off (not just hot water but all water) to property to implement any clear way forward. Was eventually told to contact number in case of emergency on travel directions but that did not exist. Hence no other option but to come home
