Active Cottage Holidays
Who says a holiday needs to be all about rest and recuperation? With a wealth of National Parks, tremendous coastline, breathtaking natural landmarks and hidden networks of caves and caverns to explore, the UK has plenty to offer thrill seekers. Our adventure holiday cottages have been specially selected with all an explorer could want in mind. From great locations near some of the country’s best outdoor activities, to the size of the property and it’s features, we’ve thought of it all. Whether you need space for bikes, a dog-friendly home or want to glam it up in a luxury home, you’ll find your perfect adventure stay here. We also offer a combination of family-friendly, larger homes and smaller accommodation for solo travellers and couples.
Choosing one of our coastal adventure cottages will give you and your intrepid guests the chance to try out all sorts of wonderful watersports and seaside experiences. Cornwall and Devon are the spots for surfing in England, with their huge waves caused by Atlantic swells renown across the globe. In these regions, you’ll also discover that most beaches offer some form of watersport, whether that’s stand-up paddleboarding, bodyboarding or coasteering. The rivers of South Devon also make for a great canoeing or kayaking holiday and in Salcombe you can even take your dog aboard your canoe!
Next to Devon you’ll find delightful Dorset, where the South West Coast Path and Jurassic Coast collide, making for some awe inspiring clifftop walks to some of the region’s most impressive sights, including the Isle of Portland, Chesil Beach and West Bay. Northumberland is also a great destination for a coastal walking holiday, as it has, undoubtedly, some of the most impressive stretches of coastline in England. From the mighty sight of Bamburgh Castle over its sandy bay, to horse riding on the beach and trips to the biodiverse Farne Islands, Northumberland’s coast is ripe for discovery on foot, horseback and boat.
If countryside adventures are more your thing, then northern England may just be the answer. Cumbria and the Lake District is known as the Adventure Capital of England, with almost every adrenaline-fuelled activity imaginable on offer: hiking, mountaineering, abseiling, fishing, wild swimming, Ghyll scrambling and much, much more. Derbyshire and Yorkshire are also known for their outdoor landscapes, which are perfect for walking and cycling holidays, but what you may not realise is that they are also home to a networks of underground caves! Derbyshire and the Peak District are home to 15 caves, the most famous being Cresswell Crags, where the most ancient cave art in Britain can be found. Meanwhile, in the hidden underground between Ingleton and Kirby Lonsdale in the Yorkshire Dales lies the Three Counties Cave system which amasses an impressive 80km! If you still fancy heading north but prefer your adventures above ground, then why not head to Lancashire and try out mountain biking at the Lee Quarry trail?
Sussex is another great country for cycling and you may want to explore Britain’s youngest National Park, the South Downs, on two wheels, or try a Brighton Bike Tour, while neighbouring Kent is one of the best golfing destinations in the country. Choosing a golf club in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty might be a risk though – will you be distracted from your shot by the fantastic scenery all around you?
Speaking of fantastic scenery, what better way to see the beauty of Wales than from 1,400 feet in the air? Well at ZipWorld at Penrhyn Quarry in North Wales, you can do just that! For those who still want to take in a landscape but without the dizzying height, boating on the Norfolk and Suffolk broads may be a more gentle but equally picturesque option.
Whatever you get up to, make sure it’s sensational by booking one of our fabulous cottages.
