We all love the Lake District, that’s why you clicked on this blog afterall! But there is no denying that the Lakes can be extremely busy during the summer and at other times throughout the year. What if you could enjoy the same stunning Lake District landscapes without the crowds – an area so unknown, you’d be the only person around for miles? Sounds good?

Head West

When you arrive in the Lake District, where do you head to? Windermere? Ambleside? Grasmere? While sitting looking over lake Windermere in traffic is probably the best place in the world to be stuck in traffic, it’s not how you want to spend your holiday is it? Broughton-in-Furness is located on the very south-western point of the national park, far from the tourist hot spots of the central and south lakes. Which means the same stunning landscapes, no more ques or crowds of visitors.

Land and Sea

When you visit west Cumbria, you are in a particularly rare English landscape – mountains by the seaside. Meaning you can enjoy a relaxing day on the beach or head up one of the Lake District fells. How you choose to enjoy your own private slice of the Lake District is up to you.

Serene Seclusion

If you visit the Lake District to escape the rat race of the busier towns and cities just to be stuck in traffic, are you really escaping anything at all? This part of Cumbria is very remote and with that comes the definition of total peace and quiet. True tangible tranquility.

Starry Nights

One of the less appreciated aspects of Cumbria – the night sky. When you stay here you are far from any kind of light pollution that would brighten the sky. If you have yet to see a true dark night to the point where you cannot see your hand in front of your face (Don’t forget the torch!) then you’re in for a surprise. Spend your evenings enjoying a bottle of red by candlelight, staring into the star-spangled canvas’ that are the dark skies of west Cumbria.
