A Rare-bit of Welsh Luxury - Now time for dessert

Published: Friday 3rd Apr 2015

Now that we have been able to announce our lucky winner of our Luxury Cottage Giveaway, congratulations Grace Tyler, we thought we’d share a little insight into the delights that surround the beautiful cottage of Felin Fach, and all that Grace and any others visiting the area can get up to on their hols!

Only a short drive from the historic town of Lampeter, you’ll find the village of Pumsaint which is home to Felin Fach which is ideally located to enjoy the natural beauty and varied history of this corner of South West Wales. Pumsaint is a quiet and typically rural Welsh village in the heart of the Cothi Valley; flanked by wooded hillsides and managed by the National Trust is a Roman Gold Mine where visitors can catch a glimmer of the distant past. Don your hard hat, practice your panning technique and see if you can find your fortune. .. If you come away empty handed, then we suggest a pick me up at the local Dolaucothi Arms, here the beer is flowing and the food is hearty.

Surrounded by oak woodlands, river valleys and rolling hills you could easily forget that it is only half an hour drive from the vast sandy beaches of Cardigan Bay. At the turn of the century Cardigan Bay was the busiest port in Wales and as a bustling trading station saw the rise of a profitable Herring Fleet which exported everything, from ale to slate. Industries boomed in the area making Cardigan a bustling town full of shipbuilders, brickworks, rope and sailmakers. Today Cardigan is a beautiful town, having retained much of its rich historical past and is the gateway to the Teifi Valley and Ceredigion Coast Path. This path meanders along its 60 mile length following the spectacular and varied coastline of Cardigan Bay. From its trail you can enjoy discovering picturesque villages, stunning vistas and an abundance of wildlife; amongst the populace of bird and insect life, Cardigan Bay also has the largest pod of Dolphins in the UK, with over 100 calling this watery inlet, home.

If all the fresh air and history sounds a little bit too exhausting then we suggest popping along the coast to Aberaeron - one of the many picturesque villages dotting the coastline; this perfectly planned graceful Georgian fishing village offers not only a stunning backdrop to your luncheon date, but has a wealth of independent shops too. The attractive window displays offer a myriad of wares catering for any discerning shopper; from chic clothing stores to delicatessens, butchers, bakers and perhaps even a candlestick maker! Many a happy hour can be whiled away in this pretty little coastal village.

For something a  bit different, especially if all that retail therapy has left you feeling starved of nostalgia, then perhaps an adventurous trip on a steam railway across Devil’s Bridge will not only leave you hankering after a bygone age, but also get your adrenaline pumping. Just 12 miles outside of Aberystwyth the three stacked bridges,  cross the Mynach river, offering stunning views of the 90m waterfall and river below. Taking a ride on one of the trains which chug across this narrow track is certainly not for the faint hearted, but you will definitely be rewarded for your endeavours. The views are unsurmounted. Board the train in Aberystwyth, take in the scenery, fill your lungs with the scent of a bygone age and marvel at a pioneering feat of Victorian engineering.

We can only imagine that all that gadding about is bound to wear out even the most seasoned of ramblers, undoubtedly the comfort of your holiday cottage will be calling you home for a well earned glass of wine and a chance to pop your feet up and relax. Well, we had all this in mind when offering this fantastic giveaway and thanks to our friends at My Personal Sanctuary, we’re able to provide our winner with her very own therapist at Felin Fach. A fully trained therapist will be coming along during the holiday ready to indulge and pamper Grace and her guest with the ultimate Rest and Unwind Organic treatments package, where she’ll have the pick of personal treatments from their extensive menu.  We think the only way to top off such an active and indulgent holiday would be with a with a glass of bubbly. We really hope Grace has a fantastic time during her stay and feels utterly spoilt!
