Description

A fabulous Georgian house standing in over 2 acres of gardens, hidden in the South Hams village of Slapton. This huge property is great for a celebration with family and friends. There's even enough room in the grounds to erect a marquee (which can be arranged with the owner). Maintaining many original Georgian features, this is a real gem – tastefully decorated and comfortably furnished with two living rooms, a conservatory and a games room.

This delightful and elegant property has a lovely living space comprising the first living room with its wood burner, dual-aspect windows and views of the grounds, and then the second which has an open fire. The conservatory also has views of the grounds and a wood burner, as well as a dining table and patio doors to the terraced area. The large kitchen is open-plan and has underfloor heating. The exposed beams add character to any meal eaten at the dining table here. There’s also a handy utility area just off the kitchen containing a washing machine, a washer/dryer and a tumble dryer. The ground-floor plays host to an en-suite double bedroom that has a small kitchen area and a door leading out to the patio area. Guests in this bedroom has the use of the ground-floor shower room. Finishing off this floor is the games room with various children's games and a bar billiards table. The second floor houses the remaining six bedrooms: a master contains two twin zip & link 3ft beds (Please advise if you require to be made into a super king size), another en-suite king-size, two twins, a double and a bunkroom. The large family room services the remaining bedrooms.

Outside, you are surrounded by beautiful gardens and spectacular wildlife. In front of the conservatory there is terrace leading to a beautiful modern, wooden gazebo with a BBQ, table and seating, perfect for outdoor gettogethers dining al fresco or an summer evening's drink. This area is also suitable for a marquee, a wonderful spot to host a garden celebration. Towards the front of the property, there is further lawn and patio area with garden furniture. To the front of the conservatory are duck ponds with free roaming ducks.

When you decide to tear yourself away from the property, you'll find Slapton Sands just a couple of miles away and the historical naval town of Dartmouth 8 miles away. Dartmouth is a delightful town which sits on the River Dart, home to some fabulous fish restaurants and cafes, delis and many independent shops and art galleries. Head west of the Kingsbridge Estuary and you'll find the popular sailing town of Salcombe (13.5 miles) with the sandy beaches of North Sands and South Sands, go east of the same estuary to get to East Portlemouth (10 miles).

Reviews

A lovely spacious house for 14. The house could be spruced up but the current decor and furnishings made it a relaxing place to stay

Mrs I,

Overall a very good stay in a well appointed large property. Well suited to a large family group with children.

Mr B,

Had a lovely stay with extended family. Buckland house was perfect for our needs and welll equipped with everything you’d need. We stayed early March but it would be even better in summer months. The large conservatory was too cold to use really, which is a fantastic space leading out into beautiful gardens and landscape with summerhouse and bbq and pond with running water/stream. The house was large, we all had space including the dogs. Kids loved the bar billiards & playing hide n seek in the dark and man-hunt in the beautiful grounds! The owner was pleasant, popping over to check on us and offer us some wood for the wood burner. The beach is a 5 mins drive away, perfect for dog walking with a pub & café at the end (but not much more). It’s really beautiful but sadly Not really great for wheelchairs or buggy if you want a long walk, as only part of it is pavement, our Niece was on crutches/wheelchair so they had to drive onto Salcombe as they couldn’t push her for the extended walk which was a shame.
