Description

Converted in 2004, Dale End Barn provides spacious accommodation for four people, perfect for those wishing to take advantage of the beauty of this part of the Lake District. Situated on the Red Bank road that runs between the villages of Elterwater and Grasmere. The doors for Dale End Barn open up to reveal a spacious living room featuring an electric stove, dining and kitchen area with wooden floor and plenty of roof windows making it a light and airy space. The kitchen has fridge with ice compartment, washing machine, dishwasher, microwave and also a small breakfast bar. On the other side of the kitchen is a dining table and chairs for 4 people so you can relax and enjoy your self catering holiday in the Lake District if you stay at Dale End Barn. Off the lounge area, at either end of the barn are the en-suite bedrooms, both are carpeted and have Velux roof windows with blinds. The double bedroom has double bed, wardrobe and drawers, the second bedroom is twin bedded with wardrobe and dresser.

While the exterior remains that of an old stone barn (you'd never know it was converted if the barn doors were shut). The interior has been fitted out to a high standard. Those staying here will find it a comfortable haven in a peaceful location.

The outside space for Dale End Barn is a designated paved patio area which is set within the boundary of Dale End Farm's garden. It's located below and to the right of the parking area (approx. 50 yards from the property) and has it's own picnic bench accompanied by stunning views over Grasmere Lake, and to the fells beyond. The patio is also approx. 50 yards from the Barn, down Dale End Farm's driveway. You also have access to the shared garden.

The village of Grasmere is just over a mile away from Dale End Barn, as well being home to Dove Cottage, National Trust's Allan Bank and other attractions to enjoy Grasmere has all the necessary practical amenities as well; a local shop, pharmacy, post office and a choice of cafes, pubs and places to eat.

The property benefits from an interconnecting door from the Dale End Barn to Dale End Farm and will sleep a total of 15 if booked together with Dale End Farm (reference: GL008). It is also possible to book 'The Loggia' (reference: GL002) which will sleep 2 additional people, making 17 in total.

N.B To reach the patio area there are nine steps of local slate which are slightly uneven (common with many slate steps in gardens and outdoor space in the Lake District), followed by a grassy area. Access to the patio area may not be suitable for those with limited mobility.

Although all on one level once inside Dale End Barn there are a few external steps to the front door.

What's included?

Reviews

A very enjoyable stay at the cottage. It worked very well for a family of four and a dog. Wonderful walks from the cottage and lovely views from the garden. Unfortunately not much view from the cottage itself due to placement of windows to the front of the building but this did not detract from a very enjoyable stay. Everything needed, such as crockery and cutlery, cafetiere, lots of pots and pans.

Mrs R,

This cottage is in an ideal location for access to the lake and local walks. It was cosy and had a good supply of hot water. The only downside was there were not enough forks or wine glasses for 4 people.

Mr K,

Lovely place, ideally placed in a quiet spot just outside Grasmere, very close to miles of walking. The views from the garden are stunning but sadly can’t be seen from the house. However, would recommend.

Mrs A,

Good location overlooking Grasmere, 5 minutes walk to the lake, 3 minutes drive to the village. Comfy beds, but kitchen could be a bit better equipped.

Dr G,

We had a lovely stay. The barn is comfortable but is all about the location. A lovely 20 min walk to Grasmere village with lots of cafes, bistro’s & pubs. There’s a beautiful shared garden you can use with picture perfect views. Saw lots of wildlife deer, birds, frogs and fish. An easy 10 minute walk to the lake with plenty of little inlets to relax and a popular beach for swimming and paddle boarding. It was perfect for our dog who needs an off lead walk, as the walk to the lake is fully fenced and fields with nearby livestock were fully secured. We did the circular walk to Rydale along the river passing Rydale Cave and Wordsworth House which is lovely. If you don’t want to do much driving there’s so much on your door step here, Ambleside a short drive and Beatrix Potters house a bit further. We stayed in Grasmere pretty much the whole time. Baldry’s Cafe and the Ginger Bread shop is a must visit - delicious! I would definitely recommend staying at this Barn for its location, a little slice of true English heaven.

Mr C,

Generally the cottage is tired and needs updating. There is plenty of space but the above mentioned issues let it down. It’s such a shame as it is in a beautiful location.

Mr T,

The cottage was a very comfortable place to stay. It uses its space well, there is a small hallway to hang coats and store your walking gear. Beds and sofas were comfortable. Kitchen pretty well equipped but would benefit from a cafetiere or similar implement. The property has a bluray player which streams netflix/iplayer etc but this isn't mentioned in the property details. Wi fi works OK. The dishwasher broke during our stay and set off the trip switch affecting some of the electrics (heating cooker ceiling lights were unaffected) and the holiday company dealt with this promptly. The property is about 1.5 miles from Grasmere village centre elevated above the Lake, its a dark walk at night so take a torch if you plan to walk anywhere in the evening. Overall a comfortable place to stay.
