Description

The Sheep Pen is a fantastic completely renovated property located near the small hamlet of Crook. Situated only 5 miles from Bowness on Windemere and 3 miles from the market town of Kendal. Dog friendly and with a great local pub within 10 minutes walking distance. This is an ideal base to explore the Lake District National Park.

Entering the property you can instantly feel that it has been finished to a high standard. To the right up two steps is the modern contemporary bathroom with its double sized walk-in shower, large sink and heated mirror. The bathroom is tiled in granite with an oak floor which runs throughout the property.

Down the stairs (watch your head as this is an old building the headroom to the lower area is quite low so you will need to be careful).

The downstairs is an open plan living room and a fully fitted equipped modern kitchen with oven, microwave, and hob. The room is completed by a large comfortable sofa, flat screen TV and Bluetooth speaker with a small dining table, a perfect room for relaxing after a days exploring. Underfloor heating runs below the entire ground floor, keeping you comfortable on the chilly winter days.

Just off the living area is the bedroom complete with a luxurious king size bed and plenty of storage space. (The bed can be split into two singles; if this is required please state at the time of booking).

There is an abundance of natural light in the downstairs area, with windows giving views over the garden area and countryside beyond.

Outside there is a fully enclosed garden, with a private area designated for use of guests staying at The Sheep Pen, here you have a table and chairs which is a great spot for a morning coffee or indeed an evening glass of wine, taking in the views of the rolling countryside.

WIFI is included.

Off road car parking is available directly outside the property.

Bike storage is available upon request.

NB: The property is next to a road so some road noise may be experienced.

NB: There is a low ceiling on the stairs to the downstairs living area.

NB: Due to the open-plan layout of the property The Sheep Pen is not suitable for children.

Reviews

The cottage interior was immaculate and had a really cosy feeling. It was ideally situated for all nearby towns.

Mrs C,

A well sited open plan cottage 2 miles from Staveley. A lovely garden with great views. Very cosy, good nights of sleep had right through the stay. Dog walking in the immediate area a bit limited as the camp site opposite doesn't allow dogs on their site. The bathroom is very spacious and kitchen facilities ok for a couple. There is a staircase between the bathroom (on the right as you go in) to the open plan kitchen / bedroom below. An enjoyable experience overall. Owners friendly and couldn't be more helpful.

Mr B,

On the wall there are different instructions regarding vacating the property by 09.00am - your instructions are 10.00am. 09.00am is a bit too early to be ready to leave! Otherwise the cottage was quite comfortable. On recommending this property to a friend we would have to state that there are 11 steps to the accommodation

Mr K,

Gorgeous, clean interior. Great that we had full access to garden, as we have a dog. Would definitely recommend to friends.

Mrs B,

We had agreat week here, it was cosy and comfortable, and the location is fantastic. 10 minutes to Bowness on Windermere, 10 minutes to Kendal, 5 minutes to Staveley and the Hawkshead brewery. Be aware there are steep steps down to the living area/Bedroom, and that the toilet and bathroom are on the first floor, not a major issue when we booked but presented a few challenges as the wife was on crutches after a broken leg, we managed though. The welcome pack was very basic (2 bottles of beer & 2 cakes) so we would recomend taking some milk, bread, butter and cereal if you are arriving late. There is an excellent cafe and bakery a couple of minutes down the road, the breakfast there is a must! Also a good bakery next to Hawkshead Brewery in Staveley, and the Sun in just down the road does great food, and Pedro's Cassa in Kendal is amazing! Overall we had a great week here, and will definitely come back.

Mr W,

Very comfortable bed. Very good location.

Mrs U,

This is a good base for touring around the Lake District. The owners are approachable and polite. The property was as described and adequate for a couple and a dog who are out and about all day.

Mrs L,

I wouldn't recommend it to people who have a disability the stairs were far from suitable as they are different heights

Mr J,

We had a wonderful stay at the Sheep Pen. It was clean and cosy and had everything that we needed for our stay in the Lake District. The owners were fantastic hosts - very welcoming and informative. The Sheep Pen is in the perfect location to explore and nearby to Windermere and Grasmere. Would highly recommend a trip to the Black Labrador pub in nearby Underbarrow and do visit the charming farm shop, Plumgarths, only a stone throw away from the property. Would highly recommend staying here - thank you for having us!

Mr W,

The basement property is in a good location with an excellent pub within walking distance. Nearby Staveley has a great cafe/bakery, pub and other useful shops. Plumgarths farmshop, cafe and an artisan bakery are just down the road and worth visiting. The property is clean, comfortable and the underfloor heating was effective. The stairs down to the lower ground floor living room area has low head height all the way down and there is also a low beam in the living room area. There is no longer a bicycle storage area at the property which was an issue as we were in the Lake District for a cycle sportive.

Mr K,

We had a lovely stay at the Sheep Pen, and it was a great location from which to explore surrounding areas. Although apart from a single pub, very little within reasonable walking distance. This was stated up front though so not much of a criticism really. Property was nice and cool in the hot weather and the hosts next door were very welcoming and helpful. Very dog friendly place as well.
