Description

This detached farmhouse, with lovely views towards Cadair Idris, is in a quiet, private location at the end of a short lane, on the edge of the village of Brithdir, 3.5 miles east of Dolgellau. Tyn Gaer is a traditional farmhouse, which retains much character with beamed ceilings, slate flooring, grandfather clocks and Welsh dressers, but also benefits from contemporary kitchen and bathrooms.

The farmhouse comprises a beamed sitting room with a woodburning stove in the inglenook fireplace (logs provided), SMART TV, fitted kitchen including a washing machine, fridge/feezer and slim dishwasher, and a traditional dining room. Upstairs are three bedrooms (a double with en suite shower room, second double bedroom and a twin) and a family bathroom. There is also a ground floor cloakroom off the rear porch.  There is oil-fired central heating throughout and WiFi is available. The enclosed garden to the rear, with garden furniture and brick built barbecue, has views of Cadair Idris. Guests have access to 35 acres of the owners' hill farm, with woodland walks, and salmon and trout fishing on the River Wnion.

Dolgellau, 3.5 miles away, has a range of shops, pubs and eating places, small supermarket and theatre, weekly market and regular Farmer's Market. This is an excellent location for walking, mountain biking at nearby Coed y Brenin, and for touring the many sights of the south Snowdonia National Park and coastline.

Reviews

We really enjoyed our 4th stay at this quiet and comfortable cottage. We thank the owner for some welcoming touches such as milk, butter, bread and cooking oil which meant we didn't have to make a mad dash to shops to get some essentials. We would recommend and hope to return again soon.

Mr W,

I 100% recommend staying at this beautiful cottage. It is clean, comfortable and extremely warm and cosy! The setting is so peaceful. The only thing you will hear is an occasional sheep in a nearby field. Despite its tranquility it is perfectly situated within quick and easy drives to the shops in Dolgellau, and the stunning countryside for incredible walks. The garden is lovely and there is a footpath straight outside your door. The beds are comfy, the shower is great, the TV works perfectly... this cottage really ticks all the boxes!

Miss R,

This cottage was really well equipped and the owner provided the most extensive welcome package of local produce which was most welcome - bread, butter, cheese, yoghurt, milk, tea bags, coffee. The cottage is ideally suited for walking and exploring the local area as well as being close to the road network for travel to Tywyn, Porthmadog and Bala (all the important little railways of Wales). Its position guarantees quiet and the ability to see the night sky. Nightly visits from a local fox entertained us as did the owners children bringing in the sheep from the fields. All in all, a great place to stay if you like isolation yet being able to travel to some great places to eat.

Mr P,

A beautiful place to stay, comfortable and welcoming with a lovely little garden and wonderful views of the ever changing clouds over Cader Idris. We feel very welcome, and it's great to come home to after one of a whole range of hill and coastal walks. And a fab welcome pack, too!

Mrs B,

Lovely relaxing holiday in a great location. Would definitely recommend and would go again.

Mrs B,

Very comfortable cottage in a lovely location

Mrs H,

A splendid spot, nice and quiet and easy to get to/from Dolgellau

Mr G,

One of the loveliest holiday cottages we have stayed in. Clean, cosy, quiet and in a gorgeous setting. Very pretty enclosed garden with sheep as neighbours. We did a fabulous walk straight from the door as well visiting forests, beaches and mountains. We all appreciated the lovely welcome treats. Would recommend to anyone. Thank you.

Mrs B,

Beautiful cottage and very comfortable and spacious and in a great location Thank you for a great week.

Mrs W,

Our third stay at this cottage and one we enjoyed very much. It's cosy and peaceful, shops are a short dive away with good quality roads between Brithdir & Dolgellau. This is important if the weather is poor. The garden was loaded with birds (probably ''cos we kept feeding them) and a working, modern, TV connected to FREESAT meant we could always get a TV signal. Some food stuffs left in the fridge for tea, coffee & toast on arrival was a thoughtful touch . It's so nice to be able to open your windows at night and not being able to hear a thing! We hope to return in the not too distant future. Thank you again :-)

Mr W,

Great cottage in an idyllic setting extremely ideal for dogs.It feels a place so full of history we love it.

Miss P,

Lovely cottage, great location and perfect for walking holidays with the dogs. Lovely treats left by the owner for both humans and dogs!

Mrs B,

Tyn Gaer is a lovely cottage in a great location for privacy and walking (eg. Torrent Walk, Precipice Walk and Foel Offram) and visiting places like Dolgellau and Bala. Visitors are welcome to wander over the nearby fields which belong to the farm and can also access walks on the Common. The cottage is well equipped and extremely warm and cosy to return to after a November walk. It also has a good garden with views over the mountains. We would recommend a visit and we look forward to returning.

Mrs B,

We enjoyed a three generational family holiday at Tyn Gaer. It was a good base for sightseeing and hiking in this lovely area of Wales. The property is in a quiet rural location away from traffic and our grandchildren had a great time. We hope to return for another stay.

Mrs N,

The property was very easy to find. Lovely location. Very clean and the floors were easy to clean. Attractions were all within acceptable driving parameters for us. Beautiful part of the world. Wherever you turn there is a stunning view. My preference to South Wales which is more industrial I guess. We would definately come again for sure. Keep it up.

Mrs G,
