Description

This delightful character accommodation is tucked away in a quiet location yet only a few minutes’ walk to the Quay and a choice of individual shops, pubs, cafes and restaurants.  This unique cottage has been sympathetically restored and offers spacious living that is furnished in a modern contemporary style while retaining much of the original character. On the ground floor there is a utility area with ample storage space and a large shower room which is attractively tiled and a walk in shower. Stairs lead up to a very spacious open plan living/dining room with a high quality kitchen.  Feature stone walls and a high apex ceiling with crossbeams gives drama to this comfortable living space which is ideal for enjoying time with family and friends.  Two bedrooms offer flexible sleeping and there is a convenient cloakroom with WC also on the first floor. Hideaway is conveniently located close to all village amenities and the Quay is a great place to enjoy the views across the Torridge Estuary to the popular beach and watersports centre of Instow( there is a small walk on ferry across the river in season). Appledore has a long Maritime history and most village activities happen around the Quay, Here you can relax taking in the picturesque scene as boats gently bob up and down on the ebb and flow of the tide and kite surfers and canoeing enthusiasts enjoy this wonderful environment. There are great places to eat and enjoy a drink along the waterfront whilst narrow lanes lead off the Quay and are full of colourful fisherman’s cottages, craft shops, art galleries and antique shops. Further afield Westward Ho! with its pebble ridged back surfing beach and the Northam Burrows Park are just a 10 minute drive and there is easy access to the spectacular rugged coastline running west towards Clovelly and onto Cornwall.

Accommodation: Ground floor: Shower room with large walk in shower, WC and washbasin. Utility area with washing machine, small freezer and storage. First floor: Open plan living/dining room with Smart TV and Now TV( TV programmes only available through catchup), an Amazon Echo for music and radio. Kitchen area with induction hob and electric oven, fridge, microwave and dishwasher. Bedroom 1 with King. Bedroom 2 with Twin zip ‘n’ links which can be converted to a Superking on request. Cloakroom with WC and basin.

Facilities and services: Linen and towels. Gas CH. Wifi. Travel cot and highchair available. 2 pets welcome. Regret no smoking. Reviews

Lovely, modern cottage tucked away where you wouldnt expect! Living space is on the first floor with full bathroom downstairs, so people with a mobility problem may find this challenging, however, a stairgate to keep youngsters safe is a very thoughtful addition. Fully equipped with modern appliances, clean and cosy. The only "down-side" is a complete lack of outside space/ garden if you are travelling with dogs, and due to the area being a working quay, not a great deal of easy to reach green space. No dedicated parking, but car parks within a few minutes walk.

Mrs S,

Nicely presented. However, the shower room being downstairs and the steepness of the stairs make this a bit of a challenge for less than spritely guests

Mr H,

Don’t let the external approach put you off as the interior more than makes up for it. This is more of an appartment than a cottage, with the property accessed down a passageway and the main door leading into an utility area and downstairs shower room with stairs up to open plan kitchen/lounge/dinner, a small toilet room and two bedrooms. When we arrived the heating was full blast and it was very warm but we just turned it down and opened windows. I imagine however it could be very hot in hot weather. There is no outside space but you are on the doorstep of Appledore and the quay area so it wasn’t missed. The property has no views as such, and rather looks out onto neighbouring roofscapes but we didn’t find that a problem and in fact made it even more private. The property is extremely well kitted out with everything thought of. It is lovely, modern and clean with plenty of room for our family of four and dog. The location is great and we were lucky to get parking on the road outside most days. All in all a great property for a week’s holiday exploring what North Devon and Cornwall has to offer.

Mrs R,

Fantastic location and a lovely apartment hidden away. Dog and child friendly in a lovely coastal location.

Mrs L,

One of the best properties we have stayed in after visiting Devon for many years

Mrs H,

Excellent location, right at the end of the seafront. Lots of nice places to eat and visit within walking distance, this was our 4th visit to Appledore and our second visit this year to this actual property. I don't think there can be any greater recommendation than to return to the same place in the same year!!

Mr H,

Fantastic apartment, brilliantly equipped in a superb location. Good WiFi for those needing to be online. Felt like a home from home.
