Description

Escape to this charming cottage, perched within the captivating Devon countryside. Nestled just outside the picturesque village of Ashwater, boasting a quaint local inn and village shop, this retreat opens the door to delightful strolls through the enchanting Cookworthy Forest and Abbeyford Woods right at your doorstep. Just 16 miles away lies the sought-after coastal haven of Bude, with its sun-soaked sandy beaches, enticing coastal walks, and a refreshing sea pool. The surrounding coastline is rich in secluded coves and picturesque fishing villages to explore. Venture further to discover the wonders of Dartmoor National Park (17 miles), the nostalgic charm of Launceston Steam Railway (9 miles), and a plethora of National Trust treasures such as Lanhydrock, Lydford Gorge, and Boscastle, all within a 20-mile radius. The nearby Roadford Lake Activity Centre (4 miles) adds something a little different, offering thrilling experiences like canoeing, abseiling and even paddle boarding, ensuring a fun-filled day for all.

As you step into this charming home, you’ll soon notice the quaint blend of original and contemporary design throughout, featuring exposed beams and exposed stone walling. The ground floor unfolds with a well-equipped kitchen/diner, combining well with the downstairs utility to feature all the appliances needed for a stress-free stay, whilst the spacious dining area boasts a good-sized table, perfect for sharing both laid back meals and memories of the holiday over your favourite tipple. There is also a useful downstairs shower and WC. Across the downstairs hallway is the lounge, where a Smart TV waits for those movie nights in, along with comfortable seating arrangements and the warmth of a wood burner to relax after a day’s adventures across Devon. As the night draws in, ascending the staircase will lead you to discover three inviting bedrooms. There are two king-size beds and the third is a single bedroom. All bedrooms are accompanied with ample clothing storage. Completing the upper floor is the bathroom with a shower over the bath and WC.

Stepping outside guests are treated to two separate enclosed garden spaces where they can take in those fantastic views across the rolling countryside. One is a spacious lawn with outdoor seating to enjoy a Devon sunset, and the other space  acts well as a play area, equipped with a slide and seating.

Reviews

It was amazing to stay in Somerdale house for the New year . The place is very quiet if you want to escape from the big city. There is everything you need for a good holiday. Thank you!

Mrs D,

Beautiful cottage. Immaculate. Couldn't ask for more.

Mrs M,

The house is lovely and we would love to return in the future. The views are incredible and the house is well equipped. The village the house is located in is remote and had plenty of walks. There is a local shop and pub which were both very nice. The roads were very direct when visiting places such as Bude which is ideal. I would definitely recommend and give the house and location five stars.

Mr W,

I always think that reviews are really useful when booking holidays as it gives personal insight into someones stay. The cottage was fantastic, spotless and really well stocked (nice to stay somewhere which has the essentials waiting for you), with the added bonus of a welcome pack of some sweet treats. The cottage is really comfortable and has everything you need. We made use of the highchair and stair gate during our visit, as well as multiple uses of the washing machine and tumble dryer thanks to holidaying in Devon in October with children. I recommend the cottage to anyone looking for a central location in Devon, its 30 minutes to Bude and Launceston and the A30 are in easy reach if wanting to travel further afield. I would happily stay here again.

Mrs J,

Can only echo what others have said; the cottage is a lovely place to stay, clean, spacious and very comfortable. Every effort has been made for guests from the overall decor, welcome pack and generous equipment to provisions for children. We felt very much at home straight away. We were blessed with unexpectedly good weather during our week, giving us lots of opportunity to enjoy the garden and the lovely peaceful surroundings. Went into Ashwater a number of times and found the locals friendly and helpful. We left with very pleasant memories and would definitely return.

Mr M,

lovely clean comfortable cottage. Very nice welcome gifts. Good parking area off the road.

Mr M,

Beautiful cottage very peaceful

Mrs R,

Lovely cottage - spacious and comfortable with lots of touches that made it a great place to stay.

Mr S,

Overall, great location, well equipped cottage, very clean, very comfortable, quiet with nice outdoor space for relaxing. A good base for visiting both Devon and Cornwall attractions.

Mrs R,

A lovely spacious cottage and well equipped, in a very quiet and peaceful country location. A nice large garden and a very nice welcome pack greeted us on arrival. We enjoyed our visit very much and the location is reasonably accessible to the North Cornwall coastline.

Mrs D,

Somerdale is a lovely, cozy and comfortable cottage set in peaceful surroundings with beautiful views. The cottage was very clean and very well equipped with everything you need for a relaxing holiday. Everything was provided for, for example hand wash, washing up liquid, toilet rolls, dishwasher tablets, washing machine capsules, kitchen roll etc, we did not need to buy anything apart from some extra toilet rolls. The beds and sofa’s are very comfortable and the linen and towels are of good quality. The welcome pack was generous, consisting of scones, jam, clotted cream and a lemon drizzle cake which was very much appreciated and enjoyed by us all. Tea, coffee, sugar, milk and bread was also provided and again very much appreciated. We did not meet the owners but I spoke to Lyn prior to our arrival and she was very friendly and helpful and a pleasure to talk to. We had a wonderful holiday and we would certainly stay again at Somerdale. We highly recommend. 5*
