Description

Cockington known the world over, a preserved village of stone and coloured washed walls under thatch roofs, is tucked away in a secluded wooded valley at the heart of the English Riviera but a world apart!

It has a Lutyens designed thatched pub, tearooms & gift shops as well as many historic buildings, including the old forge that dates back to the Doomsday Book.

Take a leisurely stroll or horse drawn carriage ride, continue through Cockington country park, passing the unusual cricket pitch and on towards Cockington Court manor house where you will find the early Norman church, worth a moment to pause and embrace the peace and history.

Cockington Court is also the creative home to some of the best crafts people in Devon, where visitors can watch the artists at work in the Craft Centre.

The 420 acres of parkland also offer formal rose and organic gardens and children's play area. From both Cockington Village and Cockington Court; footpaths and trails radiate to glorious English countryside. Take time to explore the foliage, lakes and orchards, all of which are part of the wonderful Cockington experience.  The buzz of Torquay’s seafront and Victorian town are less than a mile away.

The circa 18th century Cockington Mill has been lovingly restored (2017) by its owners to provide state of the art, luxurious holiday accommodation set against the wonderful backdrop of Cockington.

Pull into the Mill's private parking space at the front of the cottage where you can park and conveniently unload right outside the front door. The homeowner also provides guests with a complementary car parking permit that includes the use of 3 Torbay Coast and Countryside car parks, Cockington, Berry Head and Ansteys Cove for the duration of your stay.

Under a new & impressive thatched roof are two stunning floors of accommodation to be discovered!

Welcomed through the front door into the lounge with sheer comfort throughout. Convenience is there with a ground floor cloakroom toilet in the centre and beyond is dining for 6 off the surprisingly spacious well-equipped kitchen where preparing meals is possible with an ease and style you'll be impressed by.

Climb the stairs to a lofted & spacious king-size bedroom with a viewing gallery mezzanine over the lounge. The second bedroom is at the other end and furnished with twin 3ft trundle beds to allow for maximum sleeping arrangements where required. Wardrobes and bedside tables complete the experience of 'home from home' living.

Centrally positioned is a uniquely formed bathroom with a cleverly fitted bath where lounging & relaxing under the vaulted beamed ceiling til your heart's content, is simply unavoidable or perhaps you prefer to jump into the separate shower cubicle for an invigorating wash n' go. The watery lake views from the bathroom are unusual too and an added delight!

Why not stay in what was once a derelict, historic Mill for countless years and which has now been sensitively resurrected back to life as a cosy holiday home in the very heart of Cockington Village, a mere stones throw from the footpath which leads directly into Cockington Country Park.

This property has a refundable Accidental Damage Deposit of £200, which is payable to Original Cottages with the final balance of your holiday, eight weeks prior to your arrival, and is refunded within 5 working days of your departure. Alternatively, you may wish to pay a non-refundable Accidental Damage Deposit Waiver equivalent to 10% of the Accidental Damage Deposit value, which covers you for the full value of the Accidental Damage Deposit, should any damage occur during your stay.

Reviews

Lovely cottage right in center of village. Really cosy stay.

Miss W,

Lovely very comfortable cottage and superb location. Would happily return.

Mr P,

Pretty olde worlde thatched Cottage, with a thoroughly modern interior and all mod cons.

Mrs H,

We had a fantastic stay in this pretty cottage. The kitchen was well equipped so we were able to make some home cooked meals. Having two young children with us, we appreciated the use of the high chair and travel cot. We also found the village very peaceful and quiet at night. It was good to have the free parking space a very short walk from the property.
