The castle is also an English Heritage site, so tickets are free to members. Another completely free way to delve into Totnes’ history is by walking the Town Trail. This short walk around the town guides you through some of Totnes’ most historic sites, including the Royal Seven Stars Hotel, the Brutus Stone where Trojan Brutus is said to have arrived on English shores and East Arch Gate, which is the gateway to the old medieval town.
