Dorchester Food & Drink
As befits the county town there’s a wide range of commendable places to eat and drink, most notably the highly acclaimed Bramble café and restaurant in Poundbury – owned and run by Masterchef winner Mat Follas and his wife Amanda – and the family-run Posh Partridge café in the town centre.
The Georgie Porgie Pie and Burger Co offers no prizes for guessing what’s on the menu, but it delivers in taste and value, as does cider and burger specialists, the Cow and Apple. The King and Thai has long been a popular destination for diners, as has Taste with its brasserie-style menu; while in Finca, Dorchester has a coffee shop worthy of a much larger metropolitan customer base.
Outside the town you won’t have to go far to find excellent food, from the seasonal local treasures on offer at Yalbury Cottage close to Thomas Hardy’s birthplace in Lower Bockhampton, to top drawer pub fare at the Brewers Arms in Martinstown, the Wise Man at West Stafford and Puddletown’s Blue Vinny, named after the famous Dorset cheese.
Take a little time to browse through our selection of holiday cottages in Dorchester and it's neighbouring villages. We’re certain you’ll find something just right for a truly special Dorset holiday.
