Description

Situated in one of the oldest parts of Swanage, this delightful Grade II listed former quarryman's cottage dates back to 1804. Over the years the cottage has been beautifully modernised and refurbished without losing any of its charm.

Little Steppes sits next to St Marks Church in Bell Street. The road has a peaceful and village like feel to it, yet the town centre and beach are only around a mile away. The South West Coast Path can easily be accessed from the top of the road, leading onto miles upon miles of stunning world heritage Jurassic coastline.

Downstairs the rooms have plenty of original features including exposed Purbeck stone walls and fireplace and beamed ceilings. The quirky characterful bathroom has been beautifully finished. Steep stairs lead up to 2 bedrooms.

Stable doors lead out onto a raised rear garden, laid to patio with a variety of plants and hedging. The garden is largely secluded with views across to the Church and a side gate leading to the front of the cottage.

Bedrooms: 1) king size bed with wooden floors   2) single room with beamed ceiling, some reduced head height

Reviews

Lovely cottage in a great location, good amenities close by including pub and takeaways and just a short walk into Swanage.

Mrs W,

Little Steps is cosy and well located. The welcome gifts were a lovely touch, thank you.

Mr A,

Cute and cosy cottage with the most comfortable bed and linen. Location was great and parking was never an issue. Loved hearing the singing from the church on Sunday morning whilst sitting outside. It felt a calm, homely space and was sympathetically furnished and renovated.

Ms B,

This cottage is very small and a short distance to the sea. The stairs are steep with narrow steps, you have to go down the stairs through the living room then the kitchen and the utility room to the bathroom (we keep the landing and the downstairs lights on all night as it was not nice to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night).

Mr L,

Lovely setting and easy lily accessible to some lovely walks , town and restaurants. Generally very comfortable

Mrs S,

The cottage was quirky and had a couple of nice touches for our arrival - biscuits for us and the dog. The bedroom was light and airy and the matress firm but comfortable. As the name suggests steps feature throughout the property so don't stay here if you struggle with steep or deep stairs. The outside area was a nice touch for breakfast in the sun. It was a 10 minute walk into the centre of Swanage but there is an Indian restaurant and a lovely fish and chip shop at the end of the road as well as a pub and a shop nearby. From the cottage you can access the many footpaths in the area - bring your walking shoes and explore the stunning scenery at your disposal.

Mrs W,

Lovely cottage nice Outlook private little garden buses to swanage and all over Dorset easy access. Shop indian reasturant and local pub all close by

Mrs S,

Beautiful cottage . Great location.

Ms M,

Stone built character cottage. Comfortable and quirky . Cottage provides a good base for exploring the locality. Very private rear garden. Cottage style stairs, may prove challenge with restricted movement.

Mr N,

The cottage was in a good location to explore Dorset. Corfe Castle, Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door were very easily accessible. It was a good 15 minute walk to Swanage sea front from the cottage.

Mrs P,

A cosy but compact cottage for a couple. As there is only single glazing there is some traffic noise. 20 minute walk to Swanage town centre. Ideal for dog owners with plenty of walks close by.

Mrs C,

Lovely, well-equipped cottage in a great location, perfect for exploring everything Dorset has to offer.

Mrs H,

We loved our short stay in Little Steppes. The cottage was cosy and well equipped with everything we needed for a self-catering break. The décor is tasteful and furnishings comfortable. The shower and bath were lovely and the bed firm but comfortable. It is dog-friendly, which is a huge bonus: there is a courtyard garden for late night visits plus a green space at the bottom of the road. There were some nice welcoming touches: tea, coffee, milk and sugar, plus biscuits for us and treats for the dog. Little Steppes is an easy walk (one mile or so) from Swanage town centre. It is in a lovely, quiet area, next door to a church and surrounded by other heritage buildings. The main bus routes run along the bottom of the road, which was terrific for us as we were completing the South West Coast Path walk. A convenience store, two pubs, an Indian restaurant and a chippy are all within very easy walking distance (2-10 mins). Although there is no allocated parking space, we had no trouble parking a few steps away from the cottage. We absolutely loved Little Steppes and didn't want to leave. Thank you. We will book with Original Cottages again.

Mrs B,

This is a cute cottage, recently refurbished. The bed was very comfortable. A good sized bath and great shower. We enjoyed our stay
