Description

Courtyard Hideaway is a delightful cottage in the small hamlet of Clappersgate, less than a mile from the town of Ambleside. Set in the Clappersgate courtyard (once the farm buildings for the Croft Manor House) which still stands behind the cottage today.

The cottage is open plan throughout, tastefully decorated and beautifully presented. Guests also have the use of a shared riverside garden just over the road with a seating area and picnic bench.

On entering the property you can see that a lot of thought has gone into the layout, the open kitchen, bedroom and living area has everything you need for a comfortable stay. A king size bed and sofa provide a lovely area to relax around the wood burner and plan your day's activities. The Smart TV marries the old and the new, with exposed oak beams and Velux windows, there is a real sense of space. Storage baskets can also be found underneath the bed.

The modern kitchen is fully equipped with all that you will require, including a dishwasher, fridge, freezer and a washing machine. A small breakfast bar and seating divides the space from the living area.

Just off the living area and up a few steps is the fantastic contemporary bathroom, with marble tiles from floor to ceiling, a large walk-in shower and a backlit anti-fog mirror.

Adding an extra touch of luxury there is underfloor heating throughout the property, very handy to keep those feet warm and cosy.

Less than a mile away is the bustling market town of Ambleside which has a large selection of restaurants, bars and shops and is easily accessible by a paved footpath along the river. Here you can also catch one of the ferries and head up to Windermere for a day of exploring.

If you fancy a spot of walking the cottage is nestled just below Loughrigg Fell, providing magnificent walks with stunning vistas over the national park.

Courtyard Hideaway is the perfect property for a couple to relax and explore the Lake District national park.

WIFI is included throughout the property.

Parking for one car is directly outside the property.

Up to 2 dogs are welcome at Courtyard hideaway Cottage.

NB: Although the property is on one level there are 2 steps up to the bathroom. Logs for the wood burner are not provided, but can be purchased locally.

Reviews

The cottage was smaller than expected but well presented and comfortable especially the bed. Good wet room with quality towels. It would be a struggle with any dogs larger than medium as there is limited floor space. The garden is pretty with the river and perfect for the dogs morning or evening toilet walk. It was kept clean by all who used it.

Mrs H,

We were both impressed on arrival with the nice layout of showeroom and kitchen. The cottage is very cozy and compact. The kitchen is well equiped with everything we needed. The bed was comfortable and clean sheets fitted with a nice TV that was positionable over bed or facing the sofa. We enjoyed our stay at the cottage and its location exellent with a short walk to Ambleside.

Mr D,

The cottage isn’t exactly a cottage - it’s one room & a shower room. It’s very clean but much smaller than the photos make it look. The bed was extremely comfortable but the couch was not so we had to spend most of the evening sitting on the bed. The kitchen is well equipped but the hob required us to consult YouTube to make it function! If you are taking a car then parking is a problem, the space allocated is suitable for a fiat 500 & nothing larger. When you park you have to also leave room somehow for the other flats in the next block of properties to access a garden. When I went out in the morning the cottage across from us had parked right in the middle of the narrow courtyard so we couldn’t get out… I was running an ultra marathon that morning & ended up having to walk into Ambleside (not far but not ideal when you’re conserving energy to spend a whole day running). On the whole it served our purpose but I don’t think we’ll be back.

Mrs D,

Lovely, cosy cottage which was a perfect place to explore the Lakes from and in easy walking distance into Ambleside.

Mr T,

Absolutely wonderful location with walks across the fells right behind the cottage. Space was perfect for using as a base for us as we aren't there for most of the day, wood burner was perfect for getting the wet clothes dry!

Mrs B,

Good location, peaceful with good walking opportunities and a bus service outside. The cottage is well equiped, comfortable and more than adequate for us two and a dog. We found the cooker and TV a bit of a tech-challenge, but others may not.

Mr H,

The cottage is in an ideal location slightly outside of Ambleside, it's a small place to stay and slightly cramped but has everything you need. I would say it would be better to stay in spring/summer months as there's very little space to clean up in muddy months - the front door leads straight into the kitchen. I would also be aware when it's saying the cottage is "pet friendly" it's more a case of they accept dogs, there's very little space for them to roam around and lie down, every where the dog sat he was in the way of key places including kitchen, walk ways to the bed etc.

Miss E,

Lovely little stay for me, my boyfriend and our dog. Had everything we needed. Underfloor heating was a bonus. Log fire was lovely but we did expect to have some wood ready for us then to buy more if we wanted to. Location was perfect. We just walked into Ambleside and left the car at the property. I’d recommend staying here :)

Miss M,

We enjoyed our stay at the hideaway cottage, it was well equipped and comfortable.

Mr T,

The cottage was beautiful, amazing facilities with top of the line Neff appliances and everything you would have in your kitchen at home to cook with. Log burner was beautiful to have on in late October. The bed however, bowed so badly in the middle that I didn’t have a single good nights sleep. Which made the 9am kick out on day of departure even more of a kick in the sweet spot. Change the bed and we’d be back next week

Mr P,

Really lovely place but it said it had garden with access to the river This was on the opposite side of road away from the property and the access to water would have been dangerous

miss E E,

We have stayed at this cottage for 3 years and we've found several things have improved for this year, eg better access to the freezer and increased qty of crockery.

Mr David E,

The location just a short distance from Ambleside was perfect with a safe walk into the town which had plenty of amenities. We all had a wonderful time as the lakes are stunning and the weather was very kind and dry. The equipment at the property was plentiful, no real need for an iron, ironing board, who irons when on holiday and a dishwasher as there’s only the two of us. The log fire is also OTT as you have underfloor heating. There’s no permanent place to put clothes or towels in the bathroom so everything has be hung on either the shower stall or the clothes airer which takes up half the bathroom. The sink outlet pipe is obviously blocked as the note above the sink testifies to other stayers having similar issues. A number of the wall unit doors were sticking especially the end cupboard door and the dishwasher unit was badly fitted so the door was 2” out at the top. 3 of the plates were chipped. We were asked to remove the bedding which revealed large stains on the Mattress, mattress cover and duvet cover. The storage cupboard had a freezer an iron, an ironing board which reduced its capacity and wasn’t needed. Overall the-feel of the property was a little cramped and that it needed a good clean especially to the outside of the property which let it down. We’ve become accustomed to having a few treats on arrival with all the properties i.e. milk tea coffee or a bottle of wine etc so was disappointed with not even a welcome card. The property was very comfortable the bed the sofa etc, apart from the 2 pillows which were rock hard, but as I said difficult to move around the bed with the TV on the wall next to the bed end, next to the fire base, the stools as well as 2 large dogs and their beds. Value of the property was ok but never sure what the accidental damage charge and the £20 per dog goes to as the property had all wooden floors. We booked a midweek break but the 4pm arrival and the 9am departure time for the soul purpose of cleaning left me with the feeling it was more like 3 days and the regular reminders of the arrival and departure times x6 were tedious and excessive. We would have no issue with booking with your company apart from the additional charges, admin dogs etc if we found a property but not The Hideaway. I Never recommended companies or products. Just to say we did have a pleasant stay but due to issues raised above it felt short of our usual experience and expectations

Mr John F,

A lovely base from which we did a great deal of walking. Will defiantly be back.

Lovely place, really couldn't fault it. We will be back.

Nice little hideaway cottage, we enjoyed our weekend here. The garden is lovely, so peaceful and pretty.
