Cottages in Walberswick
The picturesque coastal village of Walberswick is an ex-fishing village with Suffolk charm in abundance. It is also home to a collection of our coastal holiday homes, including some of our most unique holiday homes. Many of our cottages in Walberswick have vibrant, colourful interiors that reflect the village’s artistic reputation, whilst offering a real mix of property type, from traditional fishermen’s cottages, to big barn conversions and thatched roofs. Amongst this eclectic mix are dog-friendly and luxury self-catering homes, and all our homes are within easy reach of other Suffolk gems, including Southwold, Dunwich, Blythburgh and Wenhaston.
Visiting Walberswick
Walberswick is coastal charm personified. With a beautiful beach, complete with sand dunes and gentle waters, Walberswick is often regarded as Southwold’s quieter neighbour, but both can be enjoyed together whilst on holiday in the area. Southwold is best accessed from Walberswick via the passenger ferry that operates between the two harbours, but can also be accessed on foot via the Bailey Bridge.
Although Southwold has many eateries, Walberswick also has a fine selection of places to grab a bite to eat or a holiday drink. The village has two local pubs, The Bell and The Anchor, both of which serve food as well as a well-stocked bar. The Bell does a cracking breakfast menu, on top of its delicious evening menu, while The Anchor offers a little bit of everything, from pizza and pasta to fresh Suffolk seafood.
Speaking of seafood, Walberswick is a well-known crabbing spot. Although the official “National Crabbing Competition” has not been running for several years, you will still spot plenty of families with their buckets, line, and bait by the small bridges just off the main riverside car park.
Keen walkers will be pleased to hear that there are a great number of nature trails in and around Walberswick, the best known being the walk to Dunwich, along the footpath through Walberswick nature reserve. Along the way you’ll spot a variety of flora and fauna, as well as taking in some of the best sea views in Suffolk.
