Things to do in Brancaster

Brancaster and its neighbour, Brancaster Staithe, offer holiday fun in abundance. Brancaster beach is a National Trust site known for its large, sandy beach. The flat sands seem to be unending as you look out towards the sea, a sight typical of the Norfolk coast but unique to the world. The beach’s outstanding views, cleanliness and fascinating natural landscape attracts thousands of visitors every year and is an absolute must visit. There are also an array of facilities at the beach, including a large car park and refreshment kiosk, and the beach is dog-friendly all year round too.

Brancaster Beach also has a rather unusual site: the SS Vina shipwreck. You can still see the main pole mast of the ship sticking out above the ground, which makes for a great photo op! Visitors are told, however, not to attempt to visit the shipwreck, as it is surrounded by a fast-flowing section of water.

If you’re someone who is into their sailing then a day or two spent at Brancaster Staithe is a must. This traditional fishing village is home to a large sailing centre and many more fun watersports activities can be found at Brancaster Quay, including orienteering and kayaking. Brancaster Staithe also offers an array of tasty fish and seafood to try at its many fish stalls and chippies.

The best thing about a coastal spot such as Brancaster, is that if you spend a week or so here, you also have plenty of time to explore the rest of the Norfolk coast and visit some of region’s best loved landmarks, such as Sandringham Estate and Holkham Hall.
