Description

Located in the hamlet of Waren Mill, overlooking Budle Bay, this penthouse apartment for four guests is a great base to enjoy the amazing natural beauty of this part of the Northumberland coast. The winter months see thousands of wildfowl and waders descend on the bay’s mudflats, making it the perfect place for keen birdwatchers. And with easy access to the surrounding countryside, glorious sandy beaches, and historic castles, it’s great for both group and family holidays. Enjoy walking along the coast to Bamburgh, 3 miles, where you can also visit the magnificent medieval castle, England’s finest coastal fortress for over 1,400 years. Take a trip to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne, 13 miles to the north. Famous for being the first place in Britain to be invaded by the Vikings when they landed here in 793AD, the island is now home to pubs, cafes, and gift shops, as well as Lindisfarne Castle and the ruins of the ancient priory. Enjoy a day out in Berwick, 17 miles, where you can walk the 1.25 miles of Elizabethan walls that surround the town, visit the Granary Gallery and the Berwick Museum and Gallery, and enjoy the many shops, restaurants, cafes, and pubs of this popular tourist destination.

From the ground floor entrance of the main building, take the stairs or lift to the third floor. Here, you will find the private entrance to the apartment. From the hallway, go through the double glass doors into the wide open-plan living space, featuring a lounge, dining and kitchen area, where you can check out the views across the bay to the sea. Relax on one of the two comfortable leather sofas or the armchair, and catch up on your favourite TV shows, watch a film, or listen to some music. Take a seat at the dining table, with seating for six, and enjoy a feast cooked up in the kitchen area beyond. To the rear of the apartment, you will find the two bedrooms, the master with a king-size bed and en-suite bathroom, and the second bedroom with twin beds. There is also a separate shower room.

Head back downstairs, and out to where the lawned gardens at the front of the building (shared by the building’s residents and guests) run down to the edge of the bay. Relax at the tables with bench seating for al fresco lunches, or a cold drink in the sun on a hot day.

Reviews

Our 4th stay & it's excellent. Unfortunately this time the oven pans hadn't been cleaned & had food burnt on to them. Only a minor quibble though.

Mr G,

Lovely apartment in attractive quiet location. Views of Budle Bay. Great for birdwatching!

Mrs G,

Such a beautiful apartment that was very well equipped throughout. The views are outstanding and the local walks amazing. All in all a very peaceful location. We loved it and would definitely stay again.

Mrs C,

Superb accommodation in a stunning location.

Mr J,

Such a beautiful space in a beautiful location. Apartment was decorated wonderfully, very spacious and a very quite location. Lovely just looking into the estuary with the telescope. Apartment well equipped and had everything we needed. Will be returning.

Mr L,

Really nice apartment. The only 'fault' if that is how you would describe it, was that the tap in the kitchen had a continual drip, hopefully the property is not on a water meter, otherwise it could be expensive. It simply needs a new washer fitting, however it was not a problem for us..

Mr N,

A great week in The Maltings. Fabulous location near to Bamburgh, Seahouses etc. The View from our apartment was wonderful, seeing the Herons, oystercatchers and egrets was a treat.

Mrs H,

Lovely comfortable and well equipped cottage with fabulous views over Budle Bay. Very clean with comfortable beds and furniture; couldn’t fault it. I forgot my binoculars but thank you to the owners for providing the telescope as it’s superb for bird watching.

Mr J,

Fabulous, will definitely return again. Location great. Didn't have time to see everything in Northumberland & forgot to fill in visitors book!! Very clean & everything there needed. Welcome packs in kitchen & bathroom were very good too.

Mrs E,

There is no doubt the location of the apartment is fantastic allowing you to travel around to many places within 30 minutes. 2.5 miles from Bamburgh which is fantastic and Seahouses another 2 miles on, where you’ll find a useful Coop. The views from the property are stunning overlooking an amazing bird haven, watching the tide come and go, bird spotting became very interesting. The main bedroom which has the king bed has the bath with shower over en-suite and the two single beds utilise the shower room. (Bedrooms next to each other). The bedrooms overlook the road, but it is very peaceful and very little traffic. The stunning views are from the open plan lounge, diner and kitchen which you’ll find difficult to move your gaze from!

Mrs H,

A superb holiday accommodation set in wonderful surroundings with lovely views. We’ve stayed at the property on several occasions and it never ceases to impress.

Mr J,

Our second stay at The Maltings (in a different apartment last time). This is the only time we’ve ever returned to the same place as the location is just so stunning. Quality furnishings and fittings throughout the apartment which made for a very comfortable stay. Comfy bed and good showers! Would recommend without hesitation.

Mrs F,

We had a wonderful week at The Maltings. Despite variable weather the location of the apartment means there are such peaceful ever changing views as the tide ebbs and flows and the clouds rise and fall giving hints of Lindisfarne Castle in the distance. The beds are comfy, the living area is really well lit and laid out and the kitchen is very thoughtfully equipped. The location is great for loads of day trips such as Berwick or Craster or even up to Edinburgh. Lots of visitor book entries from returning holidaymakers - we hope to return too (we didn't really want to leave!)

Mrs P,

This is now our go to place in Northumberland & we'll be back next year.

Mr G,

A fantastic location to stay, especially if you like bird watching. The apartment was clean, tidy, well equipped and a lovely place to stay for the week.

Mr P,

A lovely location with stunning views, a very spacious comfortable apartment.

Miss T,

A really comfortable apartment with a fabulous view over Budle Bay. The location is perfect for Bamburgh beach Seahouses and Beadnell. The lift is perfect as the apartment is on the top 3rd floor which is useful when you are carrying luggage and/or shopping. We would definitely stay here again and recommend it to others.

Mrs M,
