Description

This delightful semi-detached property, one of a small group of converted barns, sleeps four guests and is a lovely holiday home for families or a group of friends wishing to explore the scenic Northumberland coast. The neighbouring village of Lucker (1 mile) has a pub, tearoom and village store, and historic Bamburgh (4 miles) with its magnificent, medieval castle and sweeping, family-friendly beach is within easy reach. Enjoy a stroll around this picturesque fishing village and drop into one of the many tearooms to enjoy a drink and a sandwich of locally caught crab or the renowned Bamburgh Banger sausages. Visit the RNLI Grace Darling Museum, named after the young Victorian heroine who risked her life in wild seas to save stranded shipwreck survivors. Discover another golden beach in the delightful village of Seahouses (7.5 miles) where boats will ferry you to the Farne Islands, an important nature reserve and sanctuary for wildlife including puffins and grey seals. Alnwick (13 miles), the market town famous for its majestic castle and Harry Potter connections, is well worth a visit.

A wooden staircase leads to the large, open-plan living and kitchen area, located on the first floor to take advantage of lovely countryside views. This bright and airy space has a vaulted ceiling with fine wooden beams and a wooden floor. The sitting area has comfortable leather sofas piled with cushions, and a TV, together with a glass door that opens to a charming small balcony. A wooden table and chairs and a vista of fields and sky make this a peaceful spot to watch the sunset. In the dining area, an elegant table has chairs for six guests and keen cooks will find everything they need in the smart fitted kitchen. Artwork, mirrors and soft lighting add to the welcoming atmosphere. On the ground floor, a bright and airy double bedroom has a TV and countryside views from the window, with high-quality wooden furniture and sumptuous bed linen. A pretty twin bedroom looks out to the courtyard. The spacious family bathroom has a touch of glamour with inset ceiling lights.

Outside, in addition to the first-floor balcony, there is a sitting area to the front of the barn, with wooden garden furniture.

Reviews

This is a lovely cottage and is a great location for exploring the area. I wouldn’t recommend if you have mobility issues, however, it suited the two of us perfectly

Mrs P,

Very enjoyable stay. Accommodation fitted the bill perfectly. Great views from the balcony which was a big hit. Good communication from the owners who were most helpful. Hoping to return soon.

Mr D,

Very quiet comfortable & well equipped - super views from the Balcony with the sea in the distance. Good location for the Northumbria coast or the National Park & Cheviots/Borders region. Be aware that the lounge/kitchen is upstairs, which gives the great views but does mean it might impact anyone with mobility issues.

Mr R,

Nice cottage. Convenient for sight seeing.

Mr R,

honest review from dog owner this lovely cosy cottage is in a great location . it has a lovely bedroom with super comfy bed , great decor with lovely finishing touches both upstairs and down . there re however some clear drawbacks for dog owners: they are not permitted in the bedrooms at all , the stairs are very steep and covered in laminate so very difficult for dogs to climb - ours had to be carried up and down . there is no grass area for the essential " quick walks "to do their business and no non road walks from the property. in short a lovely homely cottage but NOT dog friendly.

Mrs H,

This cottage is in a perfect location for touring round Northumberland and despite its proximity to the A1, is very quiet. It is bright and airy, with amazing views from the balcony. The bed and bedroom are very comfy and nicely decorated. The kitchen is well set out and equipped, but the appliances are rather dated. The living area benefits from the many windows and views but again the TV and DVD are dated and one of the 2 sofas very uncomfortable as the springs have broken in the cushions. If anyone has mobility issues I would not recommend Cuthbert Cottage. The handrail on the stairs does not go all the way up and the allocated parking space is at an angle that made getting in and out of the car difficult as you have to parallel park up against a fence. The property allows dogs but in our opinion isn’t “dog friendly”.

Mrs G,

This cottage is spacious, warm, comfortable and has everything you need. Short drive from Bamburgh, Seahouses and the A1 if you wish to travel further. Very good location.

Mr H,

Had a lovely week in Northumberland. It was my first time.Cuthbert cottage is a lovely cottage in a great location for complete peace and quiet and relaxation. Ideal easy access onto the A1 for visiting and days out.

Ms B,

Location

Bamburgh & Surrounding Area

There’s something to appeal to everyone in and around the village of Bamburgh. The beach is popular with dog walkers,  horse riders, rockpoolers and kite surfers. And there are some beautiful coastal walks - try  Bamburgh to Waren Mill at low tide.

Explore the ancient castle and its grounds (outside spaces are dog friendly) or head to the RNLI Grace Darling Museum to find out how a young local woman and her father saved the lives of stranded survivors of a wrecked steamship. You can even see the boat they used for the daring rescue.

Keen golfers will love the Bamburgh Castle Golf Club as well as the many other good golf courses along this stretch of Northumbrian coast. And food-lovers are also well catered for. Try some of the locally sourced crab in a delicious sandwich, or head to R. Carter and Son butchers on Front Street for the renowned Bamburgh Banger sausages.

There are cafes, pubs and restaurants aplenty, including The Copper Kettle Tea Rooms, The Potted Lobster, The Castle Inn and The Victoria Hotel. Nearby Lucker also has a superb restaurant and cafe, The Apple Inn and The School House.
