Access Statement

Access Statement

Description: 18th century cottage, entirely unsuitable for wheelchair access and not recommended to people with limited mobility.

ARRIVAL AND CAR PARKING
On-street parking directly outside the front door but not exclusively for the use of guests: Mundles is diagonally opposite the church and a few yards down the road from an active village hall.

MAIN ENTRANCE
There is a step up through the front door and into the tiny entrance area, once inside the doormat is sunk into the floor (change of texture and consequently uneven), the stairs up to the top floor are immediately opposite and a latched door to the living room is sharp right.

LIVING ROOM
Space is tight. The floors are varnished pine. Further latched door to:

SMALL LOBBY AND KITCHEN
The floors to the former are varnished pine and there is a slight hump where the tiled floor of the kitchen meets. Fridge, freezer and dishwasher are all low level but sink, kettle, toaster, microwave and cupboards are all at waist height or above.

BACK DOOR TO COURTYARD
Stable door with a high handle, step up and over the threshold and two steps down to gravelled courtyard garden. Outbuilding and range of 3 doors:

  • coalshed (out of bounds),
  • latched door and step up into small “conservatory”, furnished with a table and chairs. The barbecue should be taken outside for use,
  • Utility room containing washing machine, dryer, second toilet and small sink.

UPSTAIRS
Narrow uneven carpeted stairs to a small landing, further step up to (for want of better word) corridor, which is also very narrow.

Bathroom is tiled and compact, no grab handles on the bath and the shower has to be stepped up and into, the sliding doors would not not react favourably to being leant on. Bedrooms carpeted. There are restricted head access on both outside walls of the rooms.

GENERAL
No landline; not the best mobile reception; Wi-fi.
Electrical sockets accessible and generally set low.

Sitting near the village of Whittingham near the River Aln and the towering Cheviot Hills, there is plenty to explore right from the doorstep with leisurely walks all around. Situated on the ground floor, the living room is a cosy and welcoming space, with a wood-burning stove for winter warmth set into a large inglenook fireplace, comfortable two and three-seater sofas, and rustic oak beams across the ceiling. There is also a dining table in the living space to serve up meals prepared in the kitchen. Upstairs there are two bedrooms, the first a tasteful double with a sloping ceiling and ample storage, and the second a single, perfect for a child. The bathroom completes the property, featuring both a bath and a shower cubicle.

Reviews

Tucked away in a beautiful location it was one of our happiest experiences The cottage is fabulous with extremely friendly people We will return

Mrs S,

Beautifully appointed and spotlessly clean. Incredibly peaceful cottage in lovely location.

Mrs O,

We have stayed in many cottages in Northumberland and Mundles did not disappoint. Caroline the owner was lovely and welcoming and nothing was too much trouble.

Mrs C,

We were welcomed by Noelle who gave us lots of information for the surrounding area. Much appreciated. Lovely warm, cosy cottage. Well equipped. Our dog was welcomed and there were throws to ensure the sofas were kept clean. Appreciated the little things. Flowers, chocolates, logs and kindling for the great log burner. Beds were comfortable. The village of Whittingham was lovely. No shops or pub but that was ok. So quiet at night. Bliss. Would highly recommend Mundles Cottage.

Ms M,

We stayed at Mundles cottage and had a relaxing week my cat was there too. The cottage has a lovely stove fire and a cosy living room. The cleanliness was not up to my standard I felt it needed a deep clean and I would have to say the shower and bathroom is in need of an upgrade. We enjoyed visiting Alnwick which is only 8 miles from Mundles cottage and has nice cafes and shops there.

Miss H,

We had a very relaxing stay at Mundles cottage. It was cosy, we loved the real fire, and was a great base for exploring Northumberland. The cottage was well equipped and we didn't want for anything. Lovely touch with the welcoming bottle of bubbly.

Mr E,

We can't say anything other than that of all the cottages (about 4 annually) in the UK, Mundles cottage at Wittingham r
