Description

Set just 2.5 miles from the centre of Bakewell, this comfortable, stone-built barn conversion makes a cosy base for a family, couple or friends to discover the Peak District National Park. Just 100 metres away, join a footpath for a countryside stroll through fields to the nearest pub (2 miles) or strike out on longer hikes from the doorstep to Lathkill Dale, Over Haddon, Sheldon, Monyash, Ashford-in-the-Water and Bakewell (ranging from 2–9 miles over fields). The latter is a picturesque market town, less than 2.5 miles away. Perched on the banks of the River Wye, and offering a plethora of shops, eateries and attractions, Bakewell is a lovely place to while away many hours. Elegant Chatsworth House (6.5 miles), impressive Haddon Hall (7 miles) and the spa town of Buxton (11 miles) are all within easy reach by car.

Step up the stone steps onto the enclosed terrace, and enter this charming cottage into the dining area, which is open plan with a bright and contemporary kitchen. The chef of the group will find it well equipped for whipping up delicious holiday meals from local produce. Just off this room is the family bathroom. Up five steps from the kitchen/diner is the lounge – a comfortable space furnished with plump sofas, with light flooding in from the Velux windows. The sloping ceilings create a cosy environment in which to snuggle up and watch the TV of an evening. Another small flight of steps from the kitchen/diner leads down to the bedrooms; with restful colour palettes and soft linens, a double bedroom and a twin invite a peaceful night’s sleep.

Outside, soak up the sunshine in the enclosed seating area which overlooks the courtyard. A picnic table with parasol is perfect for sipping your morning coffee, while elsewhere in the 20-acre grounds you will find two dog paddocks, several large fields, and a delightful communal guest garden with a shared BBQ, large picnic tables and beautiful countryside views. Outdoor games are provided in the shed for family fun in the fresh air. Enjoy a spot of friendly competition in the shared games room with pool table, table tennis, table football and a choice of board games and children’s toys. A sheltered bike store is available for guests’ use.

Reviews

We had a lovely stay in April 2025. The cottage was very comfortable and well-equipped. Our children loved the games room and enjoyed playing football in the garden. The location was ideal for visiting other places in the Peak District and we enjoyed the walks from the door.
