Reviews

Our group of 6 friends had a wonderful long weekend at Frogmore. The cottage is stunning - comfortable, cozy, spotlessly clean and incredibly-well equipped indoors and out. The location is perfect, with two pubs very close by (we had a very pleasant meal at The Square and Compass), and plenty of near-by attractions for all interests. We’ve already booked for next year.

Mrs R,

My wife and I have recently returned from Frogmore Cottage in Darley Dale where we spent four nights with four other friends and we all had a wonderful time. The cottage and everything in it was of the highest quality as were the grounds around it . This is due to the hard work , diligence and thoughtfulness of the lovely couple who own it and who are nearby to help if needed . The location is peaceful , backing on to woods , and added to this rural bliss is the convenience of at least two pubs within easy walking distance . It is also a great location for many places of interest in the Peak District. Highly recommended!

Mr W,

Lovely comfortable property in a great location. The local pub is with in walking distance and makes a fantastic Sunday lunch.

Mrs G,

We had a delightful stay at this exceptional property.

Mr M,

An ideal cottage to explore the countryside of Derbyshire. The facilities at the cottage were excellent - owners friendly and helpful - car parking and security good - local eating places of plenty - many walks (short and long) locally - Matlock, Bakewell, Chatsworth etc, all within easy reach. Our holiday time was in August. Our thanks to the owners for a relaxing time.

Mr T,

The location was fantastic with lots to do in the local area. The hosts were welcoming and the property met our needs as a 3 generation holiday.

Mr W,

Can't pick any faults at all. The cottage is obvioulsy well maintained and kept extremely clean between guests. All the equipment (and there was plenty of it) was more than adequate and easy to use - instructions on everything were available if required. We had five people in our group and there was ample space in the both the sizeable kitchen / diner and the front room for us all to relax. The cottage grounds themselves were very well maintained and there was plenty of parking for our two cars - probably would have taken another couple without too much trouble. It is situated only 5 mins drive from the busy A6 (which leads to all desinations) but you felt miles away given the tranquility of the location. Owners basically left us alone but were on hand should we have needed anything (but I can't think what else you woud need quite honestly). Had a fantastic week and would love to return in the future.

Mr Y,

Stayed at frogmore cottage in darley bridge. Wonderful home, had everything we needed and more. So peaceful and a good location for visiting local areas. Lovely food at the 3 stags pub over-the- road. Everyone friendly. Fun quiz night at square and compass. Hosts, James and Jane very friendly and welcoming, left us to just holiday at our pace but always on hand for help and advice. Would definitely recommend and hope we can return again in the future. We were blessed with wonderful weather. Thank you, again james and Jane for your hospitality.

Mrs W,

Lovely, well equipped & comfortable house in very picturesque garden. Darley Bridge is well sited within easy reach of many local towns & attractions it also has two pubs within walking distance of the house. The hosts live in the adjoining property & are on hand should the need arise, both were very friendly & helpful. We would have no hesitation in either returning to the property in the future or recommending the house to others.

Mr M,

Frogmore Cottage provides high quality, comfortable and spacious accommodation in a lovely location. It backs on to woodland with many birds and regular sightings of deer, yet is very close to one of two local pubs and within walking distance of amenities in Darley Dale. Situated between Matlock and Bakewell, it is an ideal base for exploring the Peak District. We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday here.

Mrs R,

We had a very comfortable stay, and despite wet weather found plenty to do locally with the family. The accommodation was perfect for our needs.

Mrs M,

Outstanding property. Every attention to detail considered to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable stay. Owners met us and are excellent hosts. Their own home is in the beautiful grounds. This was not intrusive. We can't wait to go back, and will be keeping an eye on the swimming pool renovation.

Mrs F,

Frogmore is a beautiful cottage. It is incredibly well-equipped and comfortable. The outside space has a very pretty formal garden ( for relaxing in) surrounded by mature trees with songbirds and an owl. All of it is looked after to a very high standard. There’s also plenty of space for parking out of view of the house. There are some very enjoyable walks straight from the house, stately homes nearby, Cromford and its industrial heritage and, of course, the White Peak dales. All in all a lovely place for a holiday ( and two pubs, both very short walks away!).

Mr D,

The cottage was extremely well equipped and, with four bathrooms and ample parking, was perfect for our trip of three couples. There was plenty of seating in the lounge, comfortable beds and plenty of hot water. The location is very good for exploring this part of the Peak District and Chatsworth, with the bonus of having two pubs in walking distance. The host lives next door and was very helpful (although we did not need to bother them as everything worked well).

Mr W,

The cottage was very clean and comfortable and in a fantastic position for exploring Derbyshire. The owners had thought of everything and were very friendly without being intrusive - the perfect balance! We really enjoyed being able to experience the local wildlife and have time to relax but with the benefit of welcoming pubs and restaurants nearby.

Mrs K,

Really lovely cottage. We were pleasantly surprised at the cleanliness of the property. The owners - James and Jane - were very friendly and welcomed us with chocolates and a bottle of bubbly. Kitchens and bathrooms were spotless - and beds and sofas were comfy. Great quiet location. Nice local pub at end of road - and easy access to Chatsworth House and Bakewell. All in all we really enjoyed our stay at Frogmore and would happily return.

Mr G,

We had a really lovely week away. The house was lovely. Very clean and tidy with en-suites to all bedrooms. Comfortable living room and the kitchen had all the equipment needed. We had a problem with one of the showers which was fixed within 24 hours of reporting it. The only downside for us was we found the kitchen table and benches a little uncomfortable and needed to use the outside furniture cushions on the benches to make it a little more useable.

Mrs D,

Beautiful property, the kitchen is beautifully equipped with every possible tool you would ever need. Very relaxing space. Very clean and comfortable. Lovely little touches.

Mrs V,

The property is well located in a quiet village with 2 excellent pubs but also only a short drive to local towns and visitor attractions. The house is well furnished and equipped for all possible needs. The hosts are very welcoming and friendly and overall this is a great place to stay.

Mr B,

The property was in a great setting, pretty front garden, patio to the side with seating. The property was very clean and comfortable with a great sitting room, large kitchen/diner and decent sized bedrooms. Steps down into the property and two bedrooms meant this was maybe not the place for those with mobility issues. Huge bathroom and three en suites so plenty for everyone. Hosts were very welcoming and nearby but not intrusive. This was excellent for our days out into the Derbyshire Dales and Peak District. There was a Co-op and a great butcher nearby in Darley Dale.

Mrs B,

Really fabulous and a beautiful cottage that ticked the boxes/met needs of a lot of different people including mature grandparents, a disabled guest and a toddler. Really relaxing, brilliant location, beautifully presented and well equipped with everything we needed for a enjoyable stay. The owners saw us occasionally, they were friendly, welcoming and helpful, yet gave us privacy and space. The grounds were immaculate. The surrounds and back garden relaxing and peaceful and all in all it was a dream property. Thank you for such an enjoyable, lovely sanctuary to stay at.

Mrs Erika W,

Everything we could wish for on a short break.

Mr Alan F,

Fabulously property, everything exactly as advertised & reviewed, had a perfect holiday. Only one criticism, checking in time quite late & checking out at 9.30 is too early when you are on holiday.

Mrs Anne B,

Excellent quality cottage / house at rear of converted former farmhouse, with a pretty, small front garden and side terrace overlooking woods and the owners' lovely landscaped gardens. The house is very well equipped, especially the large kitchen, and all is very comfortable, with three ensuite bedrooms plus a separate bathroom. The owners were helpful, informative and discrete: the detailed information booklet might be a model for others. Darley Bridge village is a pretty part of Darley Vale, based around the Derwent riverside. Shops and attractions, such as walks and the Whitworth Park with play areas, are easily reachable by foot or car. Sadly the nearby village pubs were friendly but not good for food: we found the bar/restaurant at Barrington's Hotel was the best bet and the fish & chip shop was good too, but maybe better food is a drive away. We were mostly happy to make use of the house kitchen and eat in. All in all a good calm place for a gathering of family or friends. We had a toddler there who had lots of fun, but maybe worth noting the house is more ideally set up for adults.

Mr Clive N,

Brilliant venue, stunning setting, amazing facilities and one of the best places we have ever rented. Jane and Jamie really know how to lay on a rental.

Miss Jules P,

We really appreciated being kept so well informed in the weeks leading up to our holiday. The cottage exceeded our expectations, and was a delightful venue for a family holiday - very good value for money. Thanks for everything

Ms Kathy R,

The cottage is extremely well appointed lovely location and the owners were really welcoming and helpful.

Mr Paul C,

Simple to book with lots of information to help with arrival. Lovely well equipped cottage in great location.

Mrs Paula S,

Location

DARLEY DALE

Darley Dale lays claim to be one of the longest villages in England running for 4 miles along the beautiful River Derwent from the wonderful town of Matlock to the peaceful village of Rowsley.  It is an ideal base to visit the nearby attractions of the Peak District.  Situated at the confluence of the rivers Wye and Derwent it is home to the UK’s only native population of rainbow trout.  It is possible to arrange a day of fly fishing at the Peacock Hotel, Rowsley but you aren’t guaranteed to catch one!

You will be spoilt for choice when it comes to nearby places to visit.  The wonderful ‘Palace of the Peaks’ Chatsworth House and medieval Haddon Hall are on the doorstep as are the town of Matlock and the picturesque market town of Bakewell.  Don’t forget to try a tasty Bakewell Pudding!  Take a trip on a steam train at Peak Rail or take the little ones to see the animals at Matlock Farm Park.

There is a host of local amenities in Darley Dale.  A butcher’s shop sells local meat and there is a handy small supermarket, post office, doctors surgery and chemist.  To tempt your tastebuds there is the Sticky Fig delicatessen and the Pickled Pear café whilst Barringtons and The Grouse Inn serve meals at lunchtime and in the evening.  Many more options for foodies can be found in Matlock and Bakewell.

Local Pubs: Square and Compass, Darley Bridge.  Grouse Inn, Darley Dale.  Grouse and Claret, Rowsley.
