Description

1 Smiths Wynd is a one bedroom stone-built listed building built around 1800. Set over 3 floors, it is deceptively spacious with kitchen and utility room on the ground floor, the lounge on the first floor and the ensuite bedroom on the second floor. Nestled on a quaint narrow lane in the heart of Jedburgh, it is only a few metres from the Mary Queen of Scots' Visitor Centre, which is surrounded by attractive gardens. Newly refurbished to a high standard, the cottage offers bright and modern accommodation in delightful surroundings.

Jedburgh is a pretty town steeped in history in the heart of the Scottish Borders. Mary Queen of Scots spent some time here in 1566 and the home she stayed in is open to the public with an interesting display of artwork, textiles and objects associated with her life and times. The house sits amid some beautiful gardens famous for the pear trees planted around the Augustinian Abbey in the early 1800s.  Another great attraction to visit is Jedburgh Castle Jail and Museum, allowing visitors to walk through the original cells and discover the conditions the inmates had to endure. Please check attraction websites for opening times. 1 Smiths Wynd is the perfect base for travelling across the Berwick Upon Tweed on the Northumbrian coast and even up to Edinburgh. Activities to be enjoyed in the area include fishing, cycling, boat trips, horse riding, golf.

Reviews

Lovely property in excellent location. Well equipped and close to shops, pubs and restaurants. Not having a garden was not a problem as very close to a beautiful public garden. Very quiet considering its central location.

Mrs W,

This cottage is clean and comfortable and is well equipped including furnishings. Jedburgh is a lovely town and does not lack for facilities. It is very central for touring the region.

Mr S,

Just returned from a lovely week spent at 1 Smiths Wind. Perfect home in an ideal location in the middle of Jedburgh, right off the main street but quiet. So many areas to visit in the local and surrounding areas. We took our 8 month old puppy on his first holiday and he was in his element in the house, not to mention a couple of the local pubs! Everything you could ask for on your doorstep, with handy private parking space just round the corner. Mary Queen of Scots house just a few steps away. The house itself had everything we needed (and more) and was well equipped to a high standard, just like being at home. Friendly neighbours and lovely owner who was very helpful and easy to communicate with. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend a stay here and will definitely return.

Mrs H,

A lovely little property right in the centre of Jedburgh. It is very well equipped with everything you need for a self catering holiday. The bed is very comfortable.

Mr C,

Lovely cottage, well equipped and in an ideal spot for sight seeing, central for all towns. We had a great time

Mr T,

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The cottage was as lovely as it looks on the website, and the owners have really thought through all the detail. Plenty to see and do in and around Jedburgh, with a friendly welcome from everyone we spoke to. We should have booked for longer, but have an excuse to come back.

Mrs C,

Comfortable, well-equipped, lovely decor and central location.

Mrs T,

Gorgeous cottage in the centre of Jedburgh. Clean, comfortable and had everything we could possibly want! Parking is just behind the property. Jedburgh is a lovely town with shops, pubs, cafes, walks, an abbey, jail and lots more. A great base to explore the Scottish border and Northumberland coast. Fabulous stay! Would definitely return!

Mrs H,

Excellent place to stay had everything you would need even an airfryer. Locals very friendly and the neighbour across. Was so clean the best we have stayed in for a long time

Mr R,

The cottage was absolutely delightful -we really appreciated the tasteful decor, well planned spaces and cleanliness. It is very well equipped and the bike space was extremely useful. The location was great and served us very well for exploring a new area as well us giving a base to catch up with family and friends.

Mr J,

A lovely house with everything we needed, good quality equipment, very cosy and lovely big bedroom with very comfortable bed. Very quiet at night even though it is in the centre of town. Ian very helpful when we had a query. Harestanes park worth a visit and a train journey to Edinburgh was super.

Past Customer,

Thank you for a really comfortable stay in your beautiful home. We're feeling very relaxed and refreshed! Looking forward to returning again soon. Recommend 8 mile walk from Jedburgh to Denholm along Borders Abbey Way: a real mix of terrain and stunning views, lunch at Cross Keys and No 20 bus back. Train to Edinburgh also a great day out!

Past Customer,

Lovely home with everything we needed. Spacious, clean and very convenient for local amenities. Quite roads to local towns, Melrose, Kelso and Hawick. Floors Castle huge but beautiful.

Past Customer,

Lovely house in ideal location. We visited local towns Melrose and Kelso, as well as explored Edinburgh. Edinburgh national museum and Mash Café - great food! Beautiful scenery at Kielder Forest Park.

Past Customer,

Deceptively spacious town house, beautifully decorated and maintained to a high standard. Perfect spot for touring the Scottish Borders and beyond. River walks in the local area, Dryburgh and walking up to Waterloo Monument. The Caddy Mann - Mouthooly Jedburgh - lovely food and friendly staff. About a 5 minute drive. Bella Sicily Cannongate Jedburgh - amazing Italian food, and the owners couldn't do enough to make your visit special. Just around the corner, both are dog friendly!

Past Customer,

Very clean and well equipped cottage in a great location for exploring the Scottish Borders.

Mrs B,

Beautiful cottage, we felt very homely! My favourite memory is Grey Mare's Tail and Loch hike, Edinburgh, The Fringe, Holy Island. Recommend Cafe and bread from The Naked Sourdough bakery.

Past Customer,

Super house, ideal location. Our favourite memory was walking sections of the Borders Abbey Way.

Past Customer,

Spotlessly clean. Ideal location, close to car oak, all amenities, Mary Queen of Scots garden and bus station. Prompt response from owner when minor defect reported.

Mr F,

A wonderful cottage, everything has been thought of - thank you! We could not have chosen a better house or town, we will certainly return. We enjoyed walks around town and along the river, sitting each evening in Mary Queen of Scots Gardens - the weather was amazing!
