Visiting the Shotley Peninsula  

The area surrounding the Shotley Peninsula is known for its charming and quaint towns and villages, which are perfect for people wanting to explore some of East Anglia’s finest countryside. Highlights include Chelmondiston and Pin Mill, which is known for its riverside pub, The Butt and Oyster, and Stutton, where you’ll find Alton Water Park.  

The nearby village of Freston is also home to a number of local charms. The Suffolk Food Hall is a particular stand-out attraction, and offers a vast array of locally sourced meat, fish, poultry, dairy products and fruit and veg. It is also home to a kitchenware store, garden centre, restaurant, cookery school and children’s outdoor play area. Foodies will also be intrigued Jimmy’s Farm, just a few miles from the food hall. Owned by TV chef Jimmy Doherty, this farm shop and butchers also hosts a number of food and drink events throughout the year, which are well worth looking into to see if they align with your holiday.  

If you do fancy a trip to the beach, then you can get the foot ferry from Shotley to Felixstowe to cut down your journey time. Once you arrive in Felixstowe, you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to things to do. Play arcade games on the pier, take a walk down to Landguard Fort and nature reserve, or have some well-earned downtime on the beach.
