Description

Situated in a picturesque part of Suffolk with stunning countryside enveloping the property, this is the perfect country getaway. Wildlife and walking are two key features to relish here with many well-trodden footpaths nearby. It's also a popular area for cycling with lots of quiet country lanes to explore. Bungay is just 5 miles away and has an excellent award-winning dairy where you can purchase fresh milk and delicious cheese, grab a coffee and see the pretty Montbeliarde herd. Heading towards the coast, you will reach Halesworth (5.5 miles), a thriving market town with independent shops to peruse. The popular seaside town of Southwold is just 13 miles from the property and is a must-visit for your stay. Enjoy the delights of the eccentric pier amusements and build sandcastles on the beach before finishing the day with a chippy tea as you watch the waves from Gun Hill. The idyllic coastal village of Walberswick, famous for its crabbing bridge, is only 13 miles away.

Painted in the famous ‘Suffolk Pink’ colour, which can be seen on many period countryside properties across the county, this charming 17th-century cottage has been lovingly renovated throughout to create this warm, welcoming, yet deceptively spacious holiday abode. The interior of this property has a country farmhouse feel, especially in the beautiful sage green kitchen which is fully equipped with all contemporary appliances and everything you could need for your self-catering stay. The dining space has seating for six so you can enjoy meals together, and both the dining and living area enjoy a dual-sided wood burner where you can cosy up next to the roaring fire on either side. The underfloor heating adds to the cosy feel of the cottage. This rural bolthole offers accommodation for four guests across two bedrooms, one double and one super-king-size zip-and-link bedroom, making it the ideal escape to the countryside for both families and friends.

Heading outside, the surrounding garden of this holiday home is the cherry on top. Set within half an acre of land, the garden has a wonderful dedicated patio area with seating and dining space as well as wildflowers and stunning views of the surrounding fields and countryside.

Reviews

Excellent cottage - remote and really peaceful. Well equipped and spotless.

Mr S,

Lovely comfortable cottage in a wonderful setting very relaxing we spent alot of time doing the coast with some lovely places around

Mrs P,

I really love Walnut Cottage...it was perfect for me... First two nights were really cold, and Liam soon brought me a couple of oil radiators. And hot water bottle...As my main source of heating at home is a wood burner I hadn't felt inclined to light it, but I should have, as future nights when I did it was super cosy...loved all the birds at the feeder..loved the garden festooned with snowdrops. Everything about the delightful cottage was excellent.. can't think of a single thing that could be improved upon...There is such a peaceful feel about the place.

Miss N,

Walnut Cottage is an exceptional gem of a cottage it every way. Leon and Mary have invested a heart into this well loved property that has created something truly special. The location in itself is just ‘wow’ as you draw up, the gardens are beautiful and the house itself a Suffolk dream. The renovation is sympathetic and high class. I spent many hours looking at the differences and quirks in the beams and ceilings while also enjoying the modern touches of underfloor heating and dishwasher. I was visiting family in Suffolk as well as working a day in Norwich and all were very accessible. My dogs were welcomed, not just tolerated and had a marvellous time. Both Leon and Mary were friendly and helpful in their contact. I really hope to return soon! Thank you for sharing this well loved property with us.

Miss B,

Really peaceful, comfortable cottage.

Mr S,

Just back from a relaxing weekend at the beautifully appointed Walnut Cottage. We arrived in the dark so didn’t appreciate the fabulous rural location until morning. On arrival we found the most beautiful cottage, that was thoughtfully lite by table lights. The cottage was warm, very clean and tastefully decorated. The kitchen was very well equipped and the bed linen, towels were of a high quality, also appreciated was the eco friendly cleaning products. The garden was huge and would look fantastic in spring and summer, but equally still beautiful in autumn. We walked the dogs around the farm and drove to the coast (which is around 30mins away) all in all a wonderful spacious cottage in a very rural location. Which is just what we wanted.

Mrs B,

A superb property in a secluded position yet only 5 miles from town. Walnut Cottage is a cosy, comfortable, spacious rental with wrap around gardens laid mainly to lawn. The kitchen is very well equipped. The whole property is light and airy and welcoming.

Mrs M,

Not one for writing reviews, I am only too pleased to say what a great time we had at Walnut Cottage. Spotlessly clean, quiet peaceful location, walks on your doorstep, good beaches and historic sites within easy reach what more could you ask for. Oh yes the fantastic weather and delicious home made cake. Perfect .

Mr M,

Peace, quiet and privacy in a picture book , well appointed, dog-friendly cottage with gardens boasting fruit trees, lovely planting and large lawns - what more do you need? Oh, and lots to do and see nearby like Southwold or Oulton Broads for example. Heaven.

Mr N,

Beautiful cottage in a peaceful location. Eggs and cake added to the welcome.

Mr P,

One of the nicest places we have ever stayed in. Breath taking when you arrive and see for first time. Photographs do not do justice to how lovely the cottage is. We loved ever minute of our week here. Not stayed in this part of Suffolk before and really enjoyed it. Lovely garden to sit in and enjoy the complete silence. Loved the homemade cake eggs from local farm, milk, teabags, and coffee pods. Well equipped cottage and bed in main bedroom was so comfy with superking bed that we are now looking at getting a larger bed at home! Lovely hosts. We have had a relaxing week here. Highly recommend.

Mrs D,

A beautiful cottage in a stunning garden. Very peaceful and private. We enjoyed watching rabbits and pheasants in the garden and hares in the lane. The owners have thought of everything and we will definitely be booking again.

Mrs L,

Beautiful cottage with everything you could wish for in excellent location for the countryside and the coast.

Mr B,

One of the best cottages we have stayed in, everything to a high standard very cosy ,Idyllic location garden beautiful very quiet and dog friendly ,owners Mary& Leon are just a text message away should you require anything.we will definitely be returning to this fairy tale cottage.

Mr B,

Walnut Cottage is perfect for a peaceful getaway in a secluded setting surrounded by wildlife. The accommodation is spacious and comfortable, well equipped and spotlessly clean. Well located for walks and trips out to charming towns and villages and only 30 minutes to the coast. The owners are lovely, very friendly, helpful and communicative but always discreet. Would definitely return.

Mrs M,

We had a lovely relaxing peaceful stay at Walnut Cottage. The property has been very sensitively restored and was very comfortable. Owners were very friendly and welcoming. Our 2 dogs enjoyed the walks directly from the house, which can also take you to the local pub. We would thoroughly recommend this cottage for a peaceful holiday.

Miss A,

This cottage is delightful and roomy. It has been modernised to a high standard. It is a quiet and peaceful retreat. The owners have thought of everything and left a welcome card, homemade cake and fresh farm eggs. They also left a variety of maps with highlighted walks from the cottage and the handbook contains lots of suggestions of local attractions, services and places to eat. The garden is beautiful and ideal for dogs. We saw lots of wildlife and enjoyed seeing the farm in action around us. So good we have already booked for next year.

Miss J,

Walnut Cottage is such a lovely cottage and the perfect place to unwind, relax and recharge. On arrival the cottage beckoned us with its warm welcome and we felt immediately relaxed and at home. A very tasty home baked lemon drizzle cake and welcome note was waiting for us along with everything we needed to make a much needed cup of tea and coffee after our long journey. The cottage is light and spacious whilst retaining the authentic feel of a country cottage. We loved the well equipped kitchen which leads into the entrance area providing plenty of space for coats and boots. This, in turn, leads into a well equipped utility room with downstairs loo. It was lovely to have a spacious dining room with a large table and chairs. The sitting room area is equally spacious and the furniture very comfortable and stylish. The large garden is beautiful and the outdoor seating area is perfect for relaxing and listening to the wonderful birdsong. There is so much attention to detail in the cottage and clear that the needs of the guests have been carefully considered. The downstairs is spacious with plenty of room for dog beds and crates whilst still leaving plenty of room for the humans! Upstairs is equally as comfortable, spacious and beautifully equipped. The location is very rural with some really great walks from the cottage but with plenty of interesting places to visit just a short drive away, including the coast. We found Walnut Cottage to be the perfect place for two and four legged guests and plan to come back for a visit, in fact, we didn't really want to go home we loved it so much! It was also a pleasure to meet the lovely owners, who delivered us some fresh eggs from the farm.

Mrs W,

Walnut Cottage really is the most tranquil and idyllic cottage you could stay in. We don’t go back to places already stayed at as we like to explore new places to visit, however, for the first time, we will definitely be booking another stay here. It was more than home from home; we were gifted the pleasure of so much wildlife, of silence that was palpable, and a cottage that is simply beautiful and caters for your every need. Exploring the garden and cottage, taking time to enjoy the art work and taking in the original aspects was an addition we loved. A perfect stay, what ever your reason - lovely long walks, exploring the local area or simply doing nothing, it’s a little slice of heaven. We honestly can’t wait to return.
