Description
Y Bera is a former post office in the pretty little village of Abergwyngregyn (known locally as Aber), situated on a beautiful section of the north Wales coast between the walled town of Conwy, 10 miles, and the university city of Bangor, 7 miles. Aber itself is in the Snowdonia National Park and well known for the delightful walk up to Aber Falls, a spectacular waterfall cascading down from the Carneddau mountains.
The cottage: this detached house has been recently renovated, using a stylish mixture of antique and modern furniture, to provide a charming holiday home. See our Blog about the history of the property and area.
Entrance: a small porch and hallway, with space for boots and coats, leads to the sitting room and kitchen/diner.
Sitting Room: a really pretty room with comfortable sofas, a modern flame-effect wall-mounted fire, flatscreen TV/DVD, iPod dock and WiFi. A welcome tray with homemade cakes is set for arrival and the owners live a short distance away if there are any problems. There is plenty of local information provided for by the owners and lots a lovely personal touches.
Kitchen/diner: the modern, country style kitchen diner has a small table and chairs and is well equipped with a gas hob, electric oven, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and washing machine. There is a utility area to the side. Patio doors lead out to the garden with lovely views across the fields to the surrounding hills.
Bedrooms: there are two bedrooms on the first floor, a double and a single, both beautifully furnished with a mixture of modern and antique furniture. The single has views to the rear whilst the double looks out to the village and hillside beyond.
Bathroom: the first floor shower room has a modern walk in shower, WC and basin
Exterior: the enclosed lawned garden has a patio area with garden furniture. There is private parking for two cars at the front and bike storage available in the garage.
Aber is in a superb position from which to explore both the mountains and the coast. Easy access from the A55 makes travel simple. Aber itself is a well looked after little village with a big community spirit: even the public toilets here have informative story boards depicting the history of the village and its links with the princes of Wales! There is a local cafe serving homemade food and cakes whilst further shops, cafes and pubs can be found at Llanfairfechan, 4 miles away. The coast is only half a mile walk down country lanes. There are spectacular views across to Anglesey from the nature reserve which also has bird hides. Lovely walks can be taken along the beach to Llanfairfechan either returning the same way or getting the bus back. Aber is backed by the mountains of the Carneddau range and is a popular access point for mountain walkers. Further afield is the National Trust's Penrhyn castle, 6.5 miles, Anglesey, 9 miles and Llanberis for paths and railway up Snowdon, 14 miles.
