Description

Escape to this elegantly classic North Wales retreat in central Ruthin, sat just outside the picturesque Clwydian Range. Tucked away in this medieval market town centre, a stone’s throw away from Ruthin Castle and the national centre for applied arts, Ruthin Craft Centre, this unique cottage is perfect for those looking to escape to a place where they can enjoy the outdoors, have the convenience of a bustling town on the doorstep and appreciate the luxury interiors of a beautifully renovated Grade II-listed property. The town itself offers quality local pubs, eateries and boutiques and you can very easily visit neighbouring Mold (10.5 miles), Denbigh (8 miles), Llangollen (15.5 miles) and Wrexham (18 miles) for the day. Nestled in the Vale of Clwyd, Ruthin is surrounded by an abundance of stunning opportunities for walking and cycling, from hill walking on Offa’s Dyke to local footpaths through woodlands and riverways. It’s a cycling haven, with both road and mountain bike routes on the doorstep. You can venture through Snowdonia National Park (20 miles), experience the thrill of ZipWorld (26 miles) or take a slower pace and relax on the sandy beaches of North Wales (approximately 20 miles) or visit the historic walled City of Chester (25 miles); making it the perfect base to explore North Wales and its borders.

Stepping into the cottage from the front door, you're immediately welcomed by the quirky, boutique style throughout. A large, functional entrance hall with funky patterned tiles provides ample space for you to shed outdoor attire before moving on into the cosy living spaces - there is also a separate downstairs WC here. The living and dining room showcases what you'd expect from a cosy traditional cottage of this era: original beams, a wood burner and kerbside Georgian sash windows where you could easily spend a slow Sunday afternoon perched in one of the reading chairs, watching the world go by on the narrow streets of Ruthin. Penguin book wallpaper and the brightly coloured soft furnishings bring a sense of fun to this room and create a place you want to gather in for an evening of conversation, to play games around the coffee table or to simply catch-up on your favourite Netflix documentary on the Smart TV. Before heading into what feels like a very traditional Welsh farmhouse kitchen, there is a spacious pantry full of additional cooking equipment, an extra fridge/freezer and ample space for food storage. The kitchen features original quarry tiles, a solid oak beam, Welsh dresser and a double Rangemaster oven and hob. It is fully equipped with everything you will need to entertain and cook up a real feast; a traditional oak wood dining table offers space for six to dine comfortably. From the entrance hall, head upstairs where even more luxury character awaits in the form of three bedrooms and three bathrooms. The first bedroom offers a super king-size zip-and-link bed along with a sofa bed, which can be made into an additional single bed on request. This bedroom benefits from its own en-suite by way of a wet room-style shower room on one side of the bed, and separate WC on the other. Follow the narrow landing to what's known as the ‘Drunken Sailor’s room’ due its sloping original wood flooring. (Don’t worry, the bed is perfectly level!) This king-size bedroom is serviced by a beautiful character bathroom filled with exposed beam work, high ceilings and a relaxing cast iron roll-top bath. Whilst there is a shower head attachment on the bath, you also have a separate walk-in shower and WC. Over on the other side of the landing, you'll find the largest bedroom of the three; a grand room with stunning statement wallpaper and a real designer feel. Relax in another super-king size bed with its own bathroom and separate WC. Soak into the second roll-top bath of the property with incredible views over the garden, rooftops of historic Ruthin and Moel Famau in the distance. You also have the luxury of a large separate walk-in shower.

Head out through the large back door in the kitchen to your own private patio, which makes up part of the beautifully kept larger garden space that you'll share with the owner. Your patio is home to a small BBQ with outside dining table and chairs, perfect for al fresco dining in the summer sun. Enjoy the peace and quiet of this beautiful green space, listening out for birdsong and wildlife. A quaint pergola seat makes the perfect reading spot, or simply marvel at the peaks of the Clwydian Range in the distance. There is also a handmade treehouse-cum-climbing frame in the garden for the younger ones in the family to use.

Reviews

We had a wonderful stay, the cottage was really well equipped and had everything we needed. The rooms upstairs are all spacious each having there own bathrooms. The property is really well positioned, right in the centre of Ruthin with a short walk to shops, pubs as well as the castle. Some great walks nearby as well. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would look to return.

Mrs M,

What an absolutely beautiful cottage! And Clare, the owner, was so accommodating and friendly. The cottage is so well equipped with 3 amazing bedrooms, lovely large bathrooms and the kitchen and utility room had everything you could possibly need. The shared garden is such a delight and our dog enjoyed meeting the owner's dog, Maisie. Ruthin is a stunning little town and the locals are so friendly. Will definitely return again.

Miss B,

We were super impressed with this wonderful cottage and highly recommend it to other guests. It was warm, cosy, well equipped, stylish and everything has been thought of, The cottage has a luxury feel to it and the furnishings, linen and towels are sumptuous and of a high quality. We all slept wonderfully and enjoyed the convenience of everything that is on the doorstep to the butchers, to the pubs and restauarants, to the dog walks and shops. Appreciated the owners recommendations and the welcome pack was a kind ( and tasty!) touch. The garden is beautiful and for it to be safely secure for our dog to use was fab. It was clean and well presented for our arrival. We were cosy inside in November and can imagine that the outside space would be amazing in the warmer months. Thank you to the host for sharing her wonderful property. We hope to return!

Mrs B,

Ideally located in the centre of the town. Rhuthin is a good place to stay as a base to explore many areas of interest in North Wales.

Mrs B,

A Wonderful cottage that’s very well equipped, and in a terrific location. We rattled around a bit as we were only two people but I would think if you were a family it would be fantastic. Parking was easy and private. The owner was available if needed but kept herself to herself. Wetherspoons very handy for cheap and cheerful breakfast.

Mrs W,

Ardwyn Bach is a lovely property and well appointed to an extremely high standard, very spacious bedrooms, clean, well equipped kitchen and has everything you could possibly need. Set in a prefect peaceful setting with a beautiful garden to relax in. The owner who lives next door could not have been more friendly and welcoming. We also had a lovely welcome pack on arrival. The location of the house is central so pub, bakery and shops are all within walking distance, and with good access to roads. If we holiday in North Wales again, we would definitely book Ardwyn Bach again. Thank you, we had a lovely stay.
