Access Statement

H585 was built in the late Victorian period as the manse to the adjoining chapel. Parking is available for one car on the drive in front of the house. Other cars can be parked 50 yards away at the bottom of the lane. Access to a wide front door is achieved by negotiating three small steps. Once in the property, the ground floor is tiled throughout with the exception of the sitting room which is stripped boards and rugs. A modern minimal style allows for convenient access between the rooms. A remote control is provided for the TV/DVD player. A WC and shower are located to the rear of the ground floor. Bedrooms on the first floor are reached via a staircase. Three steps lead down to the bathroom on this level. A narrow staircase leads to a large bedroom on the second floor.

Description

This late Victorian House at Bontddu stands in an elevated position, 5 miles east of Barmouth, and has lovely views over the Mawddach Estuary to Cadair Idris. The house was formerly the minister's house, attached to a converted chapel occasionally used by the owners. Bryn Hyfryd is a three storey house with attractive sitting room has rugs over stripped pine floor and a wood burning stove, TV and DVD player. The fitted kitchen diner includes a dishwasher, and the adjacent utility porch has fridge/freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer. There is also a ground floor shower room. On the first floor there are three bedrooms - double, single and twin, and a bathroom with shower over the bath. On the second floor is another double bedroom, with sloping, beamed ceilings and a washbasin. The house has WiFi and oil-fired central heating.

Dolgellau is 5 miles away for shops, pubs, restaurants and markets. Excellent local walking, Mawddach Trail for traffic free walking and cycling, mountain biking at nearby Coed-y-Brenin, and other outdoor pursuits in Snowdonia National Park. Wonderful sandy beach at Barmouth, just a short drive away, and lots of interesting towns and villages on the stunning coastline north to Harlech.

Reviews

Lovely holiday home with beautiful view. Plenty for the kids to find in the house to keep them entertained.

Mrs D,

We have stayed in a lot of cottages/airbnbs/vrbos and we loved this property. The lounge is cosy and has a wood burning stove which is lovely for the cold evenings (You can buy bags of logs from the petrol station on the main road outside Dolgellau for for £4.25) The kitchen is fully equipped and the bedrooms have very comfortable matresses. The property is located half way between Dolgellau and Barmouth but it doesn't feel out of the way. The view from the front of the property is absolutely stunning and the inside has some great artwork. We were a party of 4 adults and 3 year old and would definitely rent this property again.

Mr T,

The house is beautiful with lovely decor and in a fantastic location. Some maintenance is required within and provision of better seating outside front would be beneficial to be able to look at the beautiful views.

Miss G,

A striking property in an elevated position overlooking the estuary and next door to the dramatic ruins of Bontddu Hall. The property is incredibly well equipped although this can make it seem a little cluttered. The crockery in particular is of high quality and supplied in copious amounts. The property is warm and clean whilst the main areas (dining room, lounge, bedrooms) are comfortable. Parking is strictly limited to one car. The location is excellent being a short, scenic yet easy drive to local attractions and towns.
