Description

Calling all fun-lovers, local history buffs, outdoorsy-types and wildlife watchers.

Located in a quiet backwater on the edge of the village of Loftus, sits the Old Diary. This upside-down house has some bedrooms downstairs and the master suite and living accommodation upstairs, taking advantage of the views to the woodland across the lane.

The property has been thoughtfully put together to include everything you could need when you staycation - there is dining for six from a well-equipped kitchen with an array of equipment to cook up a storm. The living area has a luxury sofa from which to watch the LG smart TV with soundbar, DVD player with DVDs and PS3 with games. Sleep well in the big beds; two are king-sized and another is available as a super-king or two singles, serviced by two bathrooms, handy for larger groups of friends or family.

If you’re bringing the kids with you, then they are well looked after with special cutlery, crockery and a Polar Gear Baby booster seat so they can sit up to the table (12 months +), books, puzzles and board games, and a travel cot for the littlest ones.

The immediate area has some lovely river, woodland and waterfall walks loved by humans and canines alike, or you can take the hour-long stroll to Hummersea Nature Reserve and Skinningrove beach through the fields and join up with the waymarked Cleveland Way. From here, if you’re feeling adventurous, you can hike across moors and cliftops as far as the ancient market town of Helmsley in one direction and to the popular seaside town of Filey in the other. Take a tour with some former miners at the Cleveland Ironstone Mining Museum, go and ride the Saltburn miniature railway. The North York Moors and its vibrant towns are on the doorstep and, with Staithes, Whitby and Robin Hood’s Bay just down the coast, you are spoiled for things to do and places to see. There is even loads to do on rainy days - Loftus has its own leisure centre with a swimming pool, gym and classes and within an easy drive are soft play centres and an indoor skatepark, and there are not one but two theme parks about an hour away!

Take the little path to the high street and you will find there is a well-stocked Co-op and a variety of coffee shops, bakeries and cafes. For dining and evening entertainment, head to a number of pubs; the Loftus Club in particular has everything from a family night, live music, bingo, pub quizzes, karaoke and a highly regarded carvery.

There is on-street parking along Dam Street.

Reviews

Well kept accommodation in a great location to explore the area. Useful guide book with excellent suggestions, (Waterwheel is a good place to eat thanks!).

Mrs R,

We enjoyed our stay at The Old Dairy. The property had everything we needed and it was a quiet location with the basics you need for a holiday retreat close by such as a Co-op and a couple of pubs / restaurants. The Mad Alice bar was good for a couple of pints with a friendly but sometimes loud atmosphere and The Reunion Bar was good for food. We took our teenage children to both. Our favourite spots were Sandsend, Saltburn, Whitby and Robin Hoods Bay. Loftus has some good and bad points but a good base for exploring the area. The Old Dairy could do with some updating and freshening up decor wise, repairs to blinds and windows and the front porch could benefit from a clean and a plant or pots with flowers would be more welcoming. Just a bit more attention to detail. On a positive note, the beds were comfy with nice clean linen and lovely thick towels. The kitchen was very well equipped with everything we needed.

Mr A,

Very comfortable, well equipped and clean. Enjoyed our stay

Mr C,

Spacious, comfortable beds. Handy for local.attractions

Mr S,

Cleverly designed cottage, and equipped to a high standard. A nice touch is provision of plenty of cutlery and crockery - many properties only provide one of each item per person, which means washing up after every meal, or even between courses. Loftus is ideally located for exploring, we visited Redcar, Whitby, and Robin Hoods Bay. Be aware that if you bring a dog, you will need to take them down the road for their comfort stops. But it's not far to a very nice walk down by the beck which you can make into a route back via the high street. There is only room for one car outside the cottage. And while one photo shows the sofa as being an electric recliner, but they are not connected and don't recline.

Mr H,

Very comfortable and warm ,the beds were very comfortable.Very quiet and well situated for the town and exploring the surrounding area lovely walks just minutes away.

Mrs F,

Ideal location.very good value for money and a superb inventory/how to use/what to do folder on sight, this is often sadly lacking from many properties, wonderful welcome pack.

Mr B,

Quant property in the nicer side of Loftus. Ample space for 6. Well equipped kitchen and super comfort beds. Outside stream possibility of flooding

Mrs R,

Location

Loftus
Lying between the North York Moors National Park and the bustling seaside resort of Saltburn-on-Sea with its Victorian pier, cliff lift, and gardens, the small town of Loftus provides the perfect base for exploring the best of town and country. Here you are within easy reach of the attractions of the Yorkshire Coast. The quirky and quaint seaside port of Staithes is under 5 miles away where you will find a mix of local, independent shops, tea rooms and pubs serving fresh local food lining the ancient cobbled streets as well as a sandy beach and annual arts and heritage festival which draws visitors from far and wide. Head down into the North York Moors to be delighted by the seemingly never-ending carpet of beautiful purple heather, with rolling hills and sweeping valleys stretching for as far as the eye can see. This proximity to stunning coastal and countryside landscapes makes Loftus the ideal location for walkers and families looking to take in the fresh air and thrills this part of Yorkshire has to offer while also remaining within easy reach of the larger towns such as Whitby, Guisborough (with its Priory and Forest) and the city of Middlesborough.
