Richmond
Richmond is a leafy, vibrant market town boasting an impressive castle, a vast cobbled market place and an elegant Georgian district. It was formed by the Normans in 1071 and the town grew up around the castle which still dominates the skyline. It is said that the walls of the former imprisonment of King William are 11 feet thick and the exhibition centre within the grounds offers an impressive background into the history of this famous landmark.

Richmond is an exciting and vibrant place with plenty of quirky shops, art galleries and a good choice of pubs, restaurants and bars. Every Saturday there is a traditional outdoor market, joined by a popular farmers market once a month. The town is also the gateway to wonderful and unspoilt countryside, making it an ideal base for cycling, walking and other outdoor pursuits. The historic towns of York and Harrogate are also within easy reach.

Reviews

Beautiful, peaceful cottage with beautiful views in a stunning location, ideal for escaping the busy day to day life of towns and cities.

Mr B,

Wonderful cottage in beautiful location. We had a fantastic family holiday, both relaxing at the cottage and enjoying the views, and visiting some of the many great attractions nearby.

Mrs D,

This is our fifth stay at Stotter Gill and we will look forward to returning! It is a very comfortable stay with beautiful views.

Dr C,

first class cottage, the best we ever booked.

Mr K,

Really lovely cottage in a great and remote location with stunning views, perfect as we were looking for peace and quiet and a relaxing break, the cottage had everything we needed for our weeks stay, and we will certainly consider booking again in the future.

Mr P,

We had a great stay at Stottergill. We loved the beautiful, secluded location with easy access to great walking.

Mr D,

A very nicely done barn conversion in a fabulous location. The delightful courtyard area allowed us to really appreciate the upland environment, fascinatingly shaped hills and valleys with a proliferation of lambs, curlews and lapwings. A very pleasant and relaxing stay.

Mr W,

We have been holidaying in North Yorkshire for over 20 years and this is by far our favourite holiday cottage of all; it’s a large detached cottage with a lovely private garden surrounded by spectacular views of the dales.

Mr B,

Beautiful cottage in a quiet, isolated and idyllic location surrounded by fantastic walks and great places to visit.

Mrs F,

A beautifully presented barn conversion in a very quiet and relaxing part of the country . We were wanting ‘somewhere away from it all’ and we were not disappointed !

Prof G,

booking procedure was easy and perfect. The booked cottage was clean and well equipped and the posiition of the cottage was first class.

Mr Ulrich K,

This is a terrific cottage in a wonderful location - remote, quiet, surrounded by wildlife (plus sheep and cows). The only thing to be aware of is that the broadband struggles to manage the smart TV at the same time as a Zoom call, so there was a bit of buffering if we did too much at once. As we live in a rural location, we know all about that, and are sympathetic to the limitations of underpowered rural connections! Swaledale is extraordinarily lovely.

Prof W,

Superb location total peace and quiet. Great views ample parking would not hesitate to stay again.

Mr H,
