Description

Once part of Scalegill Mill, a historic cotton mill dating back to 1792, this stunning cottage provides the perfect base for couples or small families to explore the Yorkshire Dales. The property benefits from a peaceful location, set back from the road but benefitting from a footpath in the garden that takes you straight to the village of Malham. Enjoy some of the prettiest walks in all of Yorkshire from the dramatic limestone cliffs of Malham Cove (3 miles), the tranquil waterfall of Janet's Foss (2.5 miles), and the scenic Gordale Scar (3 miles). The Pennine Way, one of the UK's most famous long-distance walking routes, also passes through the village. Other popular places to visit nearby include the market town of Skipton with its impressive medieval castle (10 miles), the charming town of Grassington (11 miles), and the prehistoric formations of Ingleborough Cave (14 miles).

Step into this beautiful Malhamdale cottage, a holiday retreat bursting with character and homely touches throughout. As you enter, you'll find yourself in the charming, farmhouse-style kitchen/diner, adorned with cream walls, contrasting granite worktops, a Belfast sink, and a traditional AGA oven. The kitchen's multi-coloured slate flooring adds to its rustic charm, while a well-equipped layout ensures all your culinary needs are met. The farmhouse table is perfect for lazy brunches or intimate evening meals. Next, move through to the inviting lounge, where a roaring open fire sets a cosy atmosphere for evenings in front of the Smart TV. Upstairs, you'll discover two delightful double bedrooms, each featuring soft linens and beautiful views over the Dales, ensuring a restful night's sleep. A stylish family shower room completes the interior.

Outside, there is a private front patio area furnished with a table and chairs, perfect for al fresco dining or enjoying a morning coffee. Across the courtyard, you'll find a shared garden with a stone-flagged patio set above the river and waterfall, creating a serene spot to unwind. Just a couple of hundred yards away, on the other side of the mill, a shared woodland walk leads to a large, private pond which provides the ideal picnic spot. Private, off-road parking for two cars is also available.

Reviews

Location was idyllic, very quiet with 2 pubs within a miles walk in either direction.Had great sleep, beds very comfy and great shower and bathroom . Loved the Aga in the kitchen and whole cottage very clean and well equipped Just a mile to walk to Malham where there is a great tea room then just another mile to Malham Cove. Settle and Skipton within easy reach by car also .Would definitely stay again and recommend to friends and family. Sue and Mark from Nottinghamshire

Ms R,

Perfect location, cosy and comfortable cottage. No complaints at all

Miss M,

Beautiful place and had a lovely time. So peaceful.

Mr P,

I have already recommended Fountains Cottage to friends after a great NY stay. It’s in a beautiful setting with lots of lovely walks, pubs a fantastic farm shop and cafe in the area. It was cosy, extremely well equipped with quality towels, bedding, kitchenware. It has the feel that the owners themselves love the place and want you to genuinely enjoy your stay, which we did.

Ms R,

A perfect bolt hole for a Christmas getaway. Cottage had everything we needed to cook, entertain, relax, and is situated within metres of some of the best scenery and walking in the UK.

Mrs W,

This is a real gem. A beautiful comfortable cosy cottage in an excellent location if you wish peace and quiet and great access to lovely walks and Yorkshire’s Three Peaks.

Mrs A,

Fantastic location, if you like to be away from it all! The cottage was beautiful and extremely quiet.
