When you’re not enjoying one of our lovely cottages, be sure to venture into Paignton, where you’ll find plenty to keep you busy. Paignton became a seaside resort in 1859, after a rail line was built that connected the town to London. Nowadays, Paignton retains much of its Victorian charm and sticks to its roots with all the traditional amusements on offer on Paignton Pier. Less old school, but equally fun, is Splashdown Quaywest. As the UK’s largest outdoor waterpark, Splashdown is an absolute essential for families visiting during the warmer months and is bound to keep the kids entertained, but we’re sure the young at heart will love it equally!
Sticking with the traditional, Paignton is also a town that honours classic seaside delicacies. And what could be more traditional than a chippy tea on the beach? Many will argue over which is the best, but you can grab great Fish and Chips at Mariners, Paignton Pier Chippy Co or Nikky’s Fish and Chips.Â
Paignton is also on the South West Coast Path, making it a great spot to enjoy a walk along this famed National Trust path. The walk up Sugarloaf Hill is located on the path and is very close to some of our properties to the south of Paignton. Sugarloaf Hill joins many hills and mountains across the globe with the same name, but the views here are truly one of a kind. Looking across the whole of Torbay, you can see Torquay to the left and Brixham to the right. The walk is just over three miles and is moderate, but be aware the hill is a little steep in places.Â
With plenty to keep you entertained and availability all year round, Paignton is a great Devon holiday spot and what better way to experience it than in your very own self-catering cottage?
