Dog-friendly Lake District
If you’re planning on bringing your furry friend on holiday with you, the Lake District is the perfect place to take them. Not only are a vast amount of our Lake District cottages pet-friendly, but the Lake District itself is full of dog-friendly businesses and walks that are ‘pawfect’ for your pups.
Walking routes loved by humans and dogs alike
Despite not always getting along in real life, dogs love the walk up Catbells Fell. To really make a day of it, take the boat from Keswick to Hawes End where this circular walk begins and ends.
Stickle Tarn is a more challenging walk than the route around Catbells Fell, making it perfect for larger dogs who love to stretch their legs. The route up is also dotted with plenty of natural water features to keep your pets entertained - from waterfalls, to rock pools and a wooden footbridge over a stream.
Grizedale Forest, home of Go Ape, is ideal if you’ve got a head for heights, there are zip wires, segway trails, a treetop adventure and bikes for hire here. Also sculptures in the shady forest, a Gruffalo Spotters Trail, horse riding, cycling, orienteering - plenty to keep you and the dog excited.
Sandy shores for happy paws
Walney Island is another very sandy, smooth beach that stretches for 11 miles. Dogs are always welcome here and there’s plenty of room for them to run around, but do be careful not to accidentally venture into the nearby nature reserves as dogs are not permitted here.

Dog-friendly eateries
If you happen to be in the Keswick area, do stop by the Lingholm Kitchen and Walled Garden. Nothing says holiday like hoovering up the delicious crumbs of the array of home-baked goods on offer here and your dog is more than welcome to join you (even if they get a little jealous of the food!). Dogs are also welcome aboard the nearby Keswick Launch boats that launch from Lingholm’s Private Jetty.
Take it one step further and visit The Dog and Gun Pub in Keswick who have an entire doggy-menu! Loved by both humans and their canine pals, this place gets busy so be sure to book ahead. Bone appetit!
Boaters Bar at Bowness-on-Windermere is great for those who love two of the classics, pizza and beer. With views overlooking Windermere Marina, this is a great place for you and your pooch to unwind at the end of a busy day.
