Coastal Sussex

Our Picks for Sussex’s Best Lesser-Known Beaches

We have an outstanding collection of Sussex Coastal Cottages just waiting to be visited. Sussex is famed for its coastline, with Brighton promenade being instantly recognisable as a symbol of the British seaside, but what about the less well known? Whether you’re looking for the best spot in Sussex, are wanting to try out some new activities, or fancy getting away from the crowds, visit one of these beaches, recommended by our local experts.

West Wittering beach

West Wittering

This very remote beach is surprisingly popular, although when you see it, it’s easy to see why. West Wittering beach has miles upon miles of sandy shores for you to enjoy. Dogs are also welcome, but there are some restrictions in place on the main beach during the summer months; however, you are more than welcome to walk them up to East Head, a sand dune spit that doubles as a nature reserve. Be aware that the estate does get busy, especially in peak season, so booking your car parking spot in advance is advised.

A mixed shingle and sand beach at Goring-on-Sea

Goring-on-Sea

A mixture of sand and pebbles greets you at Goring, making it a classic West Sussex beach. A favoured picnic spot of our local team, Goring Beach is typically much quieter than other Sussex coastal spots, which is the same for most beaches in and around Worthing. Easily commutable via train or bus from Brighton, Goring-On-Sea is a great option for those looking for a little bit of peace and quiet.

Yellow kayak on a beach

Widewater Lagoon, Shoreham

One for the thrill-seekers, Widewater Lagoon is a great spot for sea kayaking. There is also a promenade here that you can walk or cycle along that takes you down to Lancing or even to Worthing if you want to venture a bit further. We recommend walking along to The Perch in Lancing, where you can eat in or takeaway, ideal for grabbing a coffee or an ice cream and sitting on the beach.

Beautiful winding beach with old wooden groynes

Climping

This dog-friendly beach in West Sussex is located between Littlehampton and Bognor. Its pebbled shores are backed by luscious green trees, grass and vegetation, making for a very pretty picture. Rural and remote, this beach is a little drive away in the car from some of our Sussex Holiday Cottages but is totally worth it if you’re craving a tranquil beachside stroll.
