Cornish Food and Drink

The Best Places to Eat and Drink in Cornwall According to Locals

Cornwall has produced some of Britain’s most iconic dishes: Cornish cream teas, handmade Ice Cream, fresh seafood and, of course, the Cornish Pasty. With so many tasty treats on offer, it can be hard to know where to start when it comes to meals out and speedy lunches when holidaying in Cornwall. So, we turned to our local team to ask them for their top recommendations of restaurants, bars and cafes and we’ve thrown a few Cornish classics in there too.

Hooked on the Rocks, Falmouth

“On a calm summer’s evening my favourite place to go for an early aperitif is Hooked on the Rocks which is perched on the bank overlooking the crystal-clear waters of Falmouth Bay with views out to Pendennis Castle and St Anthony’s Lighthouse. You can sit out on the terrace with a chilled glass of rosé and tuck into some of their home-made focaccia bread dipped in a balsamic and olive oil infusion along with their sublime Gordal olives. On a chillier evening they provide big blankets to surround yourself in whilst you watch the sun go down.”

Widemouth Bay Cafe, Bude

“My favourite beach café is The Widemouth Bay Café and is found at Widemouth, overlooking the dramatic coastline. It offers a cosy atmosphere, excellent coffee and great food in a warm yet contemporary atmosphere. This dog friendly café is the perfect place to enjoy a sunny lunch overlooking the sea, or equally a hot chocolate with all the trimmings on a wet and wild day like we did last week. We sipped on expertly made Americanos and shared a salted caramel cookie whilst watching the roaring seas from the panoramic windows. The staff are friendly and helpful and the food is well priced and tasty.”

The Watering Hole, Perranporth

“My favourite beach café in Cornwall is The Watering Hole on Perranporth Beach because it’s located in the perfect position, in the middle beach and they do the best hot chocolates. The beach itself, which is nearly 2 miles long and allows dogs all year round, also helps to build up an appetite and make room for that well-earned slice of delicious cake too!”
