Towns and Villages in Cornwall
Exploring Cornwall’s Hidden Gems: Our Top 5 Cornish Villages
Cornwall is one of the UK’s prettiest counties, so it only makes sense that it should be home to some of the nation’s nicest towns and villages also. Here we’ve curated a list of hidden gems that our local team love to visit for a day out, but we also have some lovely holiday homes in these areas, so do take a look at those if you’re seeking a bit of peace and quiet in a cute Cornish town or village.
Helford
This village, named after the river that runs through it, is simply picture-perfect. Once a port town during the Napoleonic Wars, Helford has always been at the forefront of Cornwall’s international connections. To this day, fishing boats still populate the river. Water is very much the centre of attention in Helford, with many watersports activities and tournaments occurring throughout the year, the most famous being the Helford Regatta, which happens every August. Our holiday cottages in Helford are some of the villages’ best: whitewashed exteriors, blue rimmed windows and gorgeous outdoor areas that overlook the river, our Helford properties are truly delightful.
Polperro
Another fishing village, Polperro lies just south of Looe and is near the beach Talland Bay (made popular by TV’s Richard and Judy). As with many historic Cornish fishing villages, their history is one of smuggling and there is a local museum in Polperro that depicts this. On the more legitimate side of things, the village made a living from selling Pilchards and boat building and to this day fishing boats still work from the harbour during high tide. Although we don’t currently have any accommodation in the centre of Polperro, we have lots of brilliant holiday cottages in nearby Looe.
Cadgwith
The village that time forgot. Cadgwith still has a small fleet of crabbing boats at the heart of the community and original thatched cottages still line the streets - one of which, Rene’s Cottage, you can book through us! The beach is tranquil and the sea is true blue. Have a refreshing drink at the Cadgwith Cove in and stroll along these historic streets on what is sure to be a glorious day out.
Coverack
A little further north of Cadgwith is Coverack, another little harbour village. Split up your walk through the village with a trip to Archie’s Loft Cafe, where you can get everything from ice creams to hot sandwiches and pizza. Caverock Harbour Boat Trips also run tours of the area on sea, a great way to take in the scenic views of this beautiful area. If you fancy extending your stay, take a look at our select holiday cottages in Coverack.
St Agnes
Located in both a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and a World Heritage Site, St Agnes is a small village about 30-minutes away from Newquay. Make sure to stop off at Wheal Coates on the St Agnes coastline nearby – you won’t be disappointed! We have some beautiful Edwardian holiday cottages available to rent in St Agnes too!
