South Wales is a mecca for those in search of some of the UK’s best food and drink. The rolling hills, lush green grass and sparkling mountain streams make it the perfect place to grow top-quality produce. Which some very talented producers, restaurant chefs and small-batch superstars are turning into a huge range of tasty local treats.

Cross the Bristol Channel or drive the Brecon Beacons and you’ll reach South Wales. Where mighty ports have become thriving seaside destinations. Where dramatic coastlines stretch further than the eye can see. And where a whole host of hidden treasures are waiting to be discovered.

Let’s be honest, you could walk to the postbox and back here in Yorkshire and the scenery would be stunning. But, if you’re hoping to venture further, test your legs and see some of the most spectacular sights in all the county, here are two of my top walks for all abilities. 

Oh, we do like to be beside the sea. For paddling, swimming and splashing. For kicking back, lounging and snoozing. For ice cream, fish and chips and even a stick of rock if the mood takes us! You won’t go wrong at any of Yorkshire’s seaside resorts – but, if you’re looking for a beach day that’s not quite so well-known or a memorable walk down a brand-new pier, I think I can help!

I’ve never been a great believer in the power of postcards or photos to do justice to Yorkshire’s lush landscapes, sweeping vistas and stretching horizons. I can’t put my finger on quite what it is that makes this place so special – but it feels alive! Explore these brilliant places, and I’m sure you’ll understand!

Over the centuries, this corner of the country has played host to battling kings, political wrangling and changing landscapes. I’ve come up with a few must-visit sites that I think any lover of history deserves to see in their lifetime. A fascinating fortress In the pretty market town of Helmsley, with its traditional butchers, bakers and sweet shops, is the atmospheric Helmsley Castle. Come and learn how it evolved from a fortress to a mansion, and from a stronghold to a ruin, through its 900-year history. 

Up here in Yorkshire, we’re probably most famous for our tea. Or Yorkshire puddings. Or teacakes. Possibly our cheese. The rhubarb? Maybe our beer? In short, we’re good at food! Here are a few of my favourite places to tempt my friends and family when they visit, as well as places I just pop into when I’m passing. I hope you enjoy them just as much as I do…  

The way of life in Kent and Sussex is a relaxed one, and people here love sharing the landscape with visitors from near and far. If you fancy a slightly more unusual way to have your very own adventure, read on – we’ve put together some top tips for cyclists, golfers and even horse riders!  

Quirky independent shops. Impressive department stores. Famous flea markets. It’s not difficult to understand why so many people flock here for a shopping experience unlike any other. And it’s all due to the brilliant people who are expressing themselves through their shops, products and the rich community of our special places.  

By the sheer number of castles in Kent and Susses, you’d think that everyone lived in one in medieval times. Joking aside, we’re very lucky to have such well-preserved monuments to the past, and many are making their way into the 21st century with family fun, glorious gardens and fascinating tours.
